i got myself my first speeding ticket today. It sux big ass. I was going 82 in a 60 zone so i got a $140 fine. I just wish i could've gotten a warning cause i've been driving for nearly 2 years and have nothing on my record, its squeaky clean. I think the tickets r way over priced and i'm already financially burdened right now. I guess i probably should've been obeying the legal limit but i'm still pissed.

well i dunno how it is in canada, i'd imagine certain areas are the same as in the US.. but you should go to court, you can usually plea bargain the price down a LOT and have fewer points taken off your license... assuming the system has any similarities.

sounds like its similar. It says u can appeal and if the officer doesn't show up i guess u automatically win. The point system is right now i have 4 points, and if i get all those points my license is taken away for a month. 1 speeding ticket is 3 points :S

hm i'm not sure if you have grounds for appeal, but there should be an option for going to court(instead of mailing the $140 ) and you can meet with the DA and they'll tell you the options, and you can give a guilty plea for a lesser charge, say for 2 pts instead of 3. ...hope any of this is a help

hmm sounds complicated lol. Yeah i dunno about all this. It's just right now is bad timing cause i just spent enough money on school. Obviously its my fault but i cant drive so slow or i feel like a granny hehe. I think speed limits r pretty slow as it is. And its not like where i was driving was a dangerous place to be going 83, its a 4 laned road with large seperation between oncoming traffic.

Following is a true story, I wasn't there, but my brother and sister were with my Nan in her car, going down a main road just out of town and there was a checkpoint (Just cops stationed around to take license/breathaliser tests), and you're obliged by law to take it so there's no way out. Anyway Nan pulls up and winds down her window, cop says "Breathaliser test maam." She says "No thanks," winds her window down and drives off.

The trick is to locate the officer's vacation schedule and request a court date on his vacation time. If you manage this, he won't bother changing his vacation to go after you.

but if you bring it to court and loose, even if its a reduced fine, in canada you gotta pay the court fees, almost had that happen to me with a parking ticket. lousey $20 almost ended up costing me $300. stupid bc liberals

heh, i'm osrry man... well, in the US you would have gotten reckless driving as well (20mph + over the speedlimit) and that would have had a much larger fine...

A friend of my dads drove 120km/h on a 80km/h road, he got a 5k€ fine and lost his license for a week.

5k€ = 5000 € ?!?!?!?!?

OMG!!!

you don't have to take a breathalizer test, but if you refuse and you seem drunk, that's enough to arrest you anyway.

82kph in a 60kph zone is 51mph in a 37mph...so that's not quite reckless.

speeding sucks anyway...it's pointless unless you go really fkn fast.

a 140 mi trip at 70mph takes 2 hrs.
a 140 mi trip at 80mph takes 1:45.

so you save 15 mins...and that's assuming you never have to slow down for any traffic whatsoever....which never happens. if you slow down to 70 or 65 for even a few minutes, it ruins your average speed. in reality, you save like 5-10 mins...which is pretty worthless.

of course if you go 90mph when traffic allows, you might save 15 mins...but then you're at reckless driving speeds, risking huge fines and a suspended liscense...

a 30 mi trip at 70mph takes about 25 mins
a 30 mi trip at 90mph takes about 20 mins

so the shorter your trip, the less time you save by speeding. now imagine you're headed across town and you're hitting red lights. in most cities, their lights are timed to the speed limit...so if you speed, you're actually hitting more red lights than someone going the speed limit.

a 3 mi trip at 70mph takes 2.5 mins
a 3 mi trip at 200mph takes .9 mins

so even at 200mph, going across town saves you 1.6 mins. speeding is especially pointless in town.

this is all without mentioning that speeding takes more fuel, and all the slowing down and speeding up you do because of other traffic costs even more fuel on top of that, and extra wear on your brakes.

so basically, speeding is pointless unless speeding allows you to move along with traffic at a constant speed instead of slowing down for really slow cars. then speeding allows you to save gas because you're not accelerating and braking all the time.

5000 ****ING EURO?!?! JESUS CHRIST,That's like HALF of what my mother makes in a month O_O That's one big huge ****ing fine.

JESUS!!! It's more than my parents earn in a month.....

Yeah, fines in Finland are enormous... because you get whats called a day fine, you can get any number of them and one day fine is X% of your total income...forogot how much that was....

Speeding is not worth it.

There is one thing i really hate about drivers that get caught by a speed camera - they always complain that the camera isn't visible. Arrghgggh it's so annoying, you were speeding, you were caught, get over it!
