Splinter Cell: Double Agent MP demo

Since I'm capped I can't play vs people so I did co-op by myself. It's pretty fun though the mercs (UNI.. whatever) can tell where spies are way too easy. Yeah, I know it's just the sound but so much for sneaking up behind someone, now they're going to be running, spinning, etc.

There are a couple of other small things like gadgets and that which I don't like too.

Can't wait to play as a merc though.

The entire concept of merc's drone is pointless. It gets destroyed when it travels far from the merc and you become vulnurable to spies.

Update: You do need Xbox Live Gold to play online.

It is pretty fun though. But I really, really hate the rumbling. Mercs just end up spinning, it's really dumb.

Some more things..

- The graphics just plain suck, looks like an Xbox game, eww..
- The drone needs a lot of work.
- The heartbeat thing is annoying as hell.
- Bot AI sucks.
- It's 'retarded' (For lack of better words) when you shoot your gun as a merc, just the animation and everything.

I'll rent it when it's out and if MP is good, I'll buy it.

Video Card: Direct X® 9.0c-compliant, Shader 3.0-enabled 128 MB video card (256 MB recommended) (see supported list*)

well, fuuuuuuuuuck you!

Second that. Just have to hope they'll be nice and release a patch to support 2.0. They did the same for Chaos Theory, although that supported Shader 1.1 anyway. ;(

God damnit, after 5 years I finally have to upgrade :(

I'LL MISS YOU 9800 PRO!

5? The 9800Pro was released in March 2k3 iirc.;p
But yeah, same here, though I'm buying a totally new comp instead, my old GPU(That I'm currently using) is the good ol' 9800Pro 128MB, it has deff. served me well!

played it for about 10 minutes this morning, immediately shut it off and went back to bed......

Anyone else see the extended trailer of single player? The AI looks god awful....IE bad guys standing next to you completely unaware....

I haven't seen it, but are you sure it's not a 'friendly' you're standing next too? Remember you play some missions undercover with the 'bad guys' etc so that might explain them not paying attention to you..? But as I said, haven't seen the trailer.

I have come to the conclusion that the AI, graphics and other things suck because it suffers from cross-platformitis.

Large companies who have no souls (EA, Ubi, etc) regularly see this problem but when they sit down to fix it the amount of loot (Children's souls, etc) they have gathered just falls on them and stops them being able to work.

Yeah, this is total bullshit. I bet a maximum of 30% (a number I totally made up, but it seems resonable) of PC gamers have an SM 3.0 card. I have an x800, which is by no means a shoddy card, yet I am SOL for this game? I can play Chaos Theory at max settings very well, and from what I can tell, Double Agent is based off of that engine, with some enchancements. If there is no way to make the game run on SM 2.0, I will be seriously pissed because I am not upgrading until next summer.
Most PC gamers play CS 1.6 and The Sims on 5 year old computers, I'd put the figure at 3%.

After playing a few co-op missions by my lonesome, and thinking a bit about the game balance, I now officially like everything about the multiplayer game, save for the saran-wrap sheen on the spies and the fact that you have to press A to make use of your remote hacker (instead of LT/LB/RB; you can't look and "activate" at the same time).

I can't wait to get this for PC. That way, I don't shell out $50 for Xbox Live so I can play against people with five times the screen resolution I do.

I thought SCCT was very good for a cross-platform game with decent AI etc..
Btw, a friend of mine on IRC, who has acquired the game(He's proven with multiple pics of himself playing it) states it's very very good, and he's critical of pretty much every game he gets his hands on, so I have hope!:naughty:

On the Shader Model 3, why the hell are they demanding that PC players have it when the Xbox360 doesnt need to support it?
I mean just take a look at some of the videos of it. You can defiantly tell its not using it. The shadows look like legos.
So my question is, are developers starting to hate us?

Err halflifeguy.. The XB360 vers is using it.. The 360 is SM3.0, with even some support for SM4.0.. The vids I've seen of the game from the mate who has the 360 vers has been pretty damn nice looking, and it's a clear step over SCCT and SCCTs SM3.0 mode..

With the last Splinter Cell game they only did a SM3 pass for DX9 and a DX8.1 pass for the PC. So if you had a DX9 card that did SM2.0 you had to run it in DX8.1 until they patched it later on.

I think because of how expensive it's becoming to create games, maybe target audience and the fact that we are moving so far ahead with graphic specs that supporting all the old hardware is getting to be too much.

That's my best guess... It's just too damn complicated and confusing and also time-consuming to develop for previous cards. If they limit the cards to only SM3 models, then they only have a small sample, and they can guarantee the game will work awesome on the few cards it works with.

Luckily, in DX10 / Vista, that sort of system is mostly gone (removal of Cap Bits). Which means that developers will pretty much be able to code generically for a specification and it should run perfect on all of the hardware that is DX10 certified.

It sucks yea, but it also pushes PC gaming forward, which is what everyone needs right now.

This trend is the reason I haven't purchased a PC game ... well in a very long time. I have a GF4 and the thing has held up pretty well over the years until games started requiring DX9.

The funny thing is that it still runs games like Oblivion fine and even looks decent with a simple little mod to get it to turn on ... which goes to show that its' either a matter of lazy/incompetent developers or a deal with graphics companies to try and force audiences to buy the newest cards.

I mean, unoptimized games that only run on the latest hardware are usually either ports or reveal the skill level of the developer. HL2/Ep1 are still some of the best looking games period, and the thing runs on DX7 cards for gods sake.

I plan on building a new computer when decent DX10 cards become affordable, as that should prevent this from happening for awhile.

Im just wondering whats up with the shadows in some of the vids. Cus they really do look like legos. I guess im just angry because im so close and yet so far to playing the awsome game. My card is one generation behind the ATI series that supports SM 3. Im complaining for the love of the game. All gamers complain for good. Unless your someone like CptStern. haha. j/k

Lego shadows were in SC: Chas Theory... Sucks they didn't get those fixed but oh well it's not _too_ big of a deal just very unpleasant to look at.

Anyone with the retail game can tell me if the "Joining a session..." hell in the demo is better in retail? I tried it earlier today and it still SUCKS. I've only been able to play like 3 matches so far online cause I get too annoyed.

The "Joining session..." problem still isn't fixed. That being said, you do make it into a game every two to four tries, better than the demo was for me. And if you get too frustrated, you can play the campaign. The campaign rocks.

No game has had REAL softshadows yet, the softshadows in SCDA SP on the 360 are the same softshadows that were in the SCCT PC vers on maxed settings with the latest patch, I know this because I have SCCT PC right here, besides keep in mind, this game is just running on a multi-threaded version of the SCCT engine.. Other than that there ain't really any major differences that I've noted in things such as shadows etc.:)
The only coming games announced to have real softshadows are the coming new Doom3 engine based games, RTCW2 and the unannounced new ip from ID, I sure look forward to seeing that!:D

I jsut got the actual game. On 360. yay for shanghai level. FUN FALLING OFF 10000000000000000000000000000000 STORY BUILDING!!

SPOILER

You should try pulling the guy off the building.

Staring at him plunging through the 1000ft = fantastic.

Oh god, I already did that. That was hilarious. Also, the guy who falls off after I rappel off the roof.
Pair of spy-goggles: $50,000
Sweet jumpsuit: $2,000
Pulling a guy off a 1000 foot building: Priceless.

I can't find the place where I have to rappel down the roof of the shanghai level. Im next to the crane where I was told to be. Now what!?!

You have to go ON top of the crane to the end of the little arm. Oh, has anyone gotten to the HQ 2 level? Im having problemo with et NSA Objective.

Me too. I can't for the life of me

[[[[[[[[[[[ THE FOLLOWING LINE IS A SPOILER IN A WAY KIND OF ]]]]]]]]]]

manage to fully record a voice clip for the voice locks. It gets 80% of the way through, and because of that I can't finish the NSA objective :(

Yes, Just follow around moss until you get him alone. He's easy to record.

I did, and I tried to record him too, and it went up to 90%. It's ridiculously frustrating.

Ive done it about 5 times now. Tis easy. The ship level is INCREDIBLY frustrating without high NSA rank, all the guards are considered innocents so I cant just pop them all without my NSA going to 0.
Before HQ2: ---------
After HQ2: ---
After Ship:
Oh dude, what is your gamertag? Ill message you.

I dont know what all the trouble with trust is about. I got through the whole game with around max trust on both sides.
