Am I the only person who thinks that something actually happened in that week we were gone in the teleporter, and maybe we just don't remember it? It's just a concept.

maybe you were doing another "job" for the Gman and he erased your memory?

Doubtful. More than likely Alyx and Gordon fell outside of time or something (I can't think of what I exactly want to say here. Argh.) where the trip seemed instantanious to them, but a week had passed in the world.

I want to say time dilation, but I'm not sure if that's right. Curse my memory right now.

Time Dilation seems as good a term as anything else... we're still pretty busy shaping nomenclature for this sort of thing. Physicists perhaps have an academic word for it but colloquial culture I wouldn’t say does.

There had to have been a reason for why this time "delay" occured. It sounds like they had been using teleportation enough to have never encountered something like that before and since it seemed to be such a surprise it just strikes me that a higher power forced the delay (Gman maybe?) or something did happen during that time.

How is it that every time Gordon enters a portal in Half-Life 2, something always goes wrong? He jumped through tonnes of them in Black Mesa, but now he can barely get through two...

this was a new type of portal... "...We're running the Xen emulation for the first time. Are you ready for us?..." - Alyx

Could it possibly be that it's a mechanism that allows the storyworld to have advanced to a point where the resistance have made a lot of ground against the Combine after your success at that place Nova Prospekt or wherever it was.

This way you can join in the last battle and it makes more sense that they are at such a point in the conflict when previously they were struggling.

So Alyx and Gorden are both in the same teleport.....and it's delayed for a week.....and something happens?
Well, she did eye Gordon a whole lot :p

Maybe gman sent Alyx and Gordon on another mission, a week is a long time for a mission too since everything else has only been a few days at the most. But that is kind of out there for theories...

it seems that when two things enter the same teleport, something weird happens

lamarr + gordon
alyx + gordon

ever see 'the fly'? :)

Isn't it due to the way the teleport works?

It's stated early in the game that they "slingshot" around Xen, in HL1 they actually needed to go to Xen or at least have a beacon there (HL: Blue Shift) to relay back to Earth.

However it appears that their "new" teleport goes out to Xen, but doesn't actually *go* there, it just arcs around the boderworld before coming back to Earth. Kinda like a Gravity Slingshot maneuver for speeding up interstellar spacecraft.

I always just assumed that they got "shot" too far around Xen so it took them longer to "teleport" there. . . For Gordon and Alyx it was instantaneous cause no time had passed since stepping into the portal, but the time it took for them to go around Xen and come back was 1 week earth time.

Also don't forget that the teleporter in Nova Prospekt was quite primitive compared to what Kleiner was working on. Perhaps having reconfigured the teleporter to work in the same way Kleiner's does had the effect of causing the slow teleport?

Maybe the Nova Prospekt tekeported originally teleported you to Xen, ran you along another rail in your little carriage to another teleporter which got you back at your destination on Earth? It sounded like the combine had not yet discovered the "slingshot" method to me.

Say what?

Anyway...

I think Gordon got Alyx pregnant.

You know, it never occured to me that the Combine may not have teleportation technology before invading earth but now that you say that is did indeed seem primiteve it struck me. They may be able to teleport with some kind of creature (like but not limited to Nihilianth) but these creatures can't come to earth and so they need to learn teleportation tech. They obviously haven't mastered it quite yet.

I don't know about you guys, but I smell an expansion pack coming that revolves around that week of lost time.

Here's hoping, more Barney to the people!

Makes sense to me - if you agree with the theory that the Combine enslaved the Xen aliens - that they invaded Xen for their teleport technology. Since they seem to have some difficulty making them work. Even human scientists are farther ahead with this, than the Combine. Odd, isn't it?

Kinda makes you wonder if the Combine are like the Borg. They only assimilate their technology now, from the races they enslave or destroy. They don't create their own technology any more. Why bother, when they can just steal it.

Nothing happened in the interim. I walked in with 225 bullets in my SMG, and walked out with 225 bullets...

who said whatever happend /required/ bullets hmm? or maybe you got restocked

They said that the teleporter on the other end was destroyed just as Gordon was leaving. Thats why it took so long. Expansion pack? Maybe, the week lapse helped HL2 story because now all you had to do was joing the already fighting rebels and finish the game. Makes the story more smoother. It could also be that Valve did not have time to expand the story on rallying the resistance and used this as a short cut. I think they promised average 36 to 40 hour game, its no where near that. But hl1 was.

Hey most of you are going to laugh at me when i say this, but i have 2 idea's.
first like someone here said the expantions could play in the time between, bu what if hl3 playes in that week, i mean no one would expect it, it could be like mgs3, which goes in the past to explain the future, you know maybe we don't need to play after the events of hl2 to realize the story maybe we need to know exactly what happend in between, it would be original and I'm sure you all ask now why then did the g-man let gf go in to stasis after hl2, well who knows maybe valve wants that lleft open and only realized after we examine all the 3 games, but we could never be sure like valve always wants us.
