Spot the traps!

Watching all the videos over again (specifically traptown, but others as well) I've noticed many places where traps have been setup that weren't specifically used during the demo movies.

In Traptown there are 2-3 catwalks that can be seen directly above a path an enemy takes toward killing Freeman. They look like they would be easy to shoot, bringing down wooden boards and other things to damage enemies. In Tunnels you can see precariously placed boxes, and on the platform that the combine soldiers fire at you from... in the far left you can see what looks like barrels, ready to tumble down. In Docks we already know some of the boards can be shot out, making the zombies fall into the water.

In older screenshots you can see the attempt to hide the traps was not as subtle as it is in the recent videos. Anyone else notice any small "traps" like these setup around the levels?

Tek: I agree with you partially on your arguement that "guns shoot traps!" but I must counter that not only can "guns shoot traps!" but also other physically simulated objects in the world can activate traps. For example, a barrel could knock over a board with a fulcrum and perhaps a heavier payload on the other side. Although the idea "guns shoot traps!" is the first implementation that comes to mind, I think a more sophistocated Rube-Goldberg kind of puzzle would be more advanced and entertaining. The more complex reaction, the harder to deploy accurately everytime, but VALVe has mentioned the physics of a particular object can be scripted.

i meant the bullets were traps, it was a pseudo macho phrase, usually found in action movies. :bounce:

EDIT - off topic...decided to create another thread rather than hijack this one!

I'd like 2 see a physically simulated nuclear reactor trap :)

That recent movie showed a kinda alley on the rooftop with boards and paintcans sitting around. I think some of those are for effect when you see an alien charging down the path and debris goes flying... should be cool.

Instead of a physically stimulated nuclear reactor, maybe a locomotive train would be more feasable?

What about when a strider dies, can it crush stuff when if falls over?

It would be cool if when you blow an enemy in the air with a grenade, if it hits another guy it knocks him over.

ENEMIES ARE TRAPS!

Traptown reminds me of the ewoks battle on endor. We're sitting around in sophisticated armor and weaponry but we still resort to cave-man traps like swinging logs and punji-pits ;)

Well they're still effective, except maybe against the gunship.

I mean you could trip over a strider with a cable i suppose. Imagine if thats possible in game!!!
