Sprint function is destroying Deathmatch

I wish I could invest the time in the maps and the skills to actually get good in any deathmath game. THat's why it's always so sad when a 12 year old (which pretty much spends his entire day playing) rapes you over and over and over again (it's even worse when he has a microphone and taunts you, you can't even tell him to get laid once in a while).

In short, if I ever win the lottery and stop working and cut all my social contact, I would be the best in deathmatch.

On the topic of this topic, have to trouble with sprint.

Why is it that i have never heard anyone use a mic in css or hl2dm
Is it not possible?

Ok, CS:S microphone is almost a requirement if you are serious; HL2: DM it's more of a novelty, but they are supported, check the audio option.

Yeah CB. The sound quality in Source is terrible. Try VT or TS instead. Way better =)

If you're being sniped, you can use sprinting to further randomize your speed and trajectory. Makes yourself a pretty challenging target.
Yeah, and whats more, because the Sprint is finite, it isn't like crazy UT2 jumping where the only limit to your randomness is how long you can perform keyboard gymnastics before your fingers fall apart...

Yeah :( It's really sad. But I might move again in not too long, and they I'll just share my connection (Direct Connect 4000/512 ADSL ;)) with another gamer who uses the connection to the same as me and always stops downloads when I have matches or want to play :D

What game is UT2?

Unreal Tournament 2003 and 2004 collectively. They're more or less exactly the same game really, especially with respect to player movement which is really what defines the games.

I've just never seen it called UT2 as there is no such game ;) No UT1 for that matter either. Lots of UT people on ESR, but never seen that ;)

Well, in pre-development all the magazines called UT2003 "Unreal Tournament 2". Well, when they weren't calling it "Unreal Warfare"... Now, it's a good enough way of referring to what are two very similar games, especially as it corresponds with the version of the Unreal Engine: UT is UT1 (though no game is every called "gamename 1" anyway). UT2 is the UEngine 2 games, UT2003 and 2004. UT3 will be what is currently codenamed "Envy". The intention is that UT2 is far easier than saying "UT2003/4", and people should be able to figure out what you're talking about (and if they think it's 2003, it really makes little difference because the games are so similar anyway). Unless of course they fail to understand, and you end up writing 2 additional posts trying to explain what the hell you're on about :p

It cant be any more annoying yes. Like when you encounter someone and they just jet at you with their super sprint and circle you while shooting their MP7.

people.. the playing field is even!! everyone has sprint!!

get good or go home!

Hehe ;) don't mind me though, I always ask these questions ;)

Or you could just type UT2003/4 instead of typing UT2, because that makes people think of Unreal 2.

XMP was great ;(

Really fun! Good multiplayer game if you knew what you were doing!

Not really :p

Heh, I played UT2 (04) online last night for the first time, went on to some clan server and was at the top each time... worrying when half of them were clanners. Only bit that stopped me doing better was taking into account dodging when I was predicting where the enemy was going to be. Oh and I missed my gravgun :)

Might give online onslaught a go and then I'll probably never play it again :).

lol try instagib { 1 shot kill } and see how long you last. there is some bad ass players and bunnyhop sprint makes no differance. These guys will pop ya in air , bunnyhoping or whatever you can do, why because there aim is right on the money. IMO, bottom line you have to be able to aim, They messed up Call of Duty cause people whined about bunnyhopping, why well because they cant aim for sh*t and wanted to complain, so they gimped the game so it was easyer for NOOBS to kill ppl. I dont have any problem with any type of sprint or bunnyhoppers if you can kill no matter what they do then it means you have skill bottom line.

I miss the strafejumping in UT games :) Dodging is fine for fights, cause you can move away from explotions and projectiles fast, but for getting to a to b, it's a bit slow :/ Just like I kinda miss dodging in Q3 ;) But there you do have strafejumping. PK has a nice mix of both, only you need a little speed to get going, but if you enter a fight with speed it can go on with speed :)

I would like to see the run speed in hl2dm sped up and the sprint taken out. It feels too slow when I'm not sprinting.

Exactly. :)

When did you change your mind? I'm sure you disliked it before ;)

I love the potential that hl2dm has but 5 official maps since November 2004 and a sprint function that really is poorly implemented is disappointing
Still I play away because its still good, very good
More maps and weapons plz

Quoted for truth.

Personally, I love sprint. Sprint is integral to my gameplan; in fact 80-90% of the time I'm moving I'm moving with sprint. HL2DM would feel weird without it. Like someone mentioned before, chasing after people with the bar, or circle-strafing with the SMG. And even though I use it mostly to get from point A to point B in a hurry, I like the idea of using a sprint that can deplete and run out rather than increasing the default move speed to sprint-level speeds. Also, if you get rid of sprinting you decrease grav jump ability.

Anyway it's somewhat moot to argue this; sprint's not going to be taken out. If it bothers you that much make a server and outlaw sprint.

My thoughts:

First off, people that bemoan 'n00b friendly' options. This one irks me somewhat. They don't want new players to be able to do what they can. Why the hell do they want advantages against new players? What is wrong with somebody being able to pick up and play a game without spending countless hours mastering movement? They are already new, you have advantage enough, just because you can't take the hit to your ego by being occasionally killed by a 'n00b' Seeesh. Get off of your elitist pedestal.

Run speed in HL2DM. I like the fact that movement speed is less than superhuman. I can see why other seasoned DM'ers find it fustrating, simply because other DM games have it set faster, but the sprint offsets that.

Sprinting itself. Well, it's a damn sight better than bunnyhopping, which looks frankly ridiculous and destroys any immersion the game has, these are humans here remember. Bunnyhopping is dead, accept it and learn another tactic. I'm sorry you lost the ability to show off your skill that you took the time to master 4 years ago, but it's time to move on.
Maybe increasing the sprint recharge would make it somewhat more of a tactical option.

Of course these views are based on the way I like to play the game, your milage may vary.

Yeah.. Strafejumping is still there and works kinda good when you have power available. And it's not a realistic game by far, so don't start making the claims that things aren't there because it's supposed to be realistic. And it's not about your "n00b friendly options", it's about wanting a faster game. At least for me that is what it is about.

I never made such a claim. On the same subject, no game is realistic in the real world sense, but it should be realistic within the digesis of the HL2 universe. For example, teleportation is not realistic within say, CS, but nobody has a problem buying it in HL2 because it exists in their 'reality'. It is a moot point anyway since as said, I made no such claims.

I had already accepted that a lot of deathmatchers purely want a faster game, even If i'm happy with the speeds as-is

Maybe you have no problems with the afformentioned n00b friendly options, but the sheer amount of adversity that comes up when something is made simpler for any game shows a definite attitude to the contary.

What noob friendly options? I don't have a clue what your talking about, all I see is long words.

Hey Badger which servers do you most frequent on? just incase I fancy testing your l33t skills ;) :p

Sprinting and the lack of bunnyhopping. Apparently. The subject of the whole thread, you know?

if valve raised the normal run speed a bit, but kept sprint, would that make a good comprimise for everyone???

Haha mate I'm rubbish :)

But add me to Xfire, I'm always up for game :)

If you don't like an integral part of the game such as sprint, just stop playing so the rest of us, who have the ability to adapt, can get on with enjoying ourselves. Cheers.

I like sprinting! I dont know whats the matter with ya'll, (or anyone who likes CS better than HL2DM for that matter!) But, I wish I could sprint all the time! Or at least
have it last a little longer...

I think that is most peoples point. The want good old always run to be implemented.

You can take a half round of the assault rifle to the face, but you can only run for 5 -10 seconds.... ?????? :flame: :flame:

Um... it is always run, sprinting is FASTER running, which would be draining carrying a heavy gun, after running around so much already. Why does everyone think that the default is walking? There is no walking, it's either running or sprinting!
