Few months old, but hey, not a lot of people knew about it.

WASHINGTON -- Cyberspies have penetrated the U.S. electrical grid and left behind software programs that could be used to disrupt the system, according to current and former national-security officials.

The spies came from China, Russia and other countries, these officials said, and were believed to be on a mission to navigate the U.S. electrical system and its controls. The intruders haven't sought to damage the power grid or other key infrastructure, but officials warned they could try during a crisis or war.

"The Chinese have attempted to map our infrastructure, such as the electrical grid," said a senior intelligence official. "So have the Russians."

Authorities investigating the intrusions have found software tools left behind that could be used to destroy infrastructure components, the senior intelligence official said. He added, "If we go to war with them, they will try to turn them on."

I've talked to a bunch of people doing information security for the government here in DC, and they all say the same thing; everyone's an amateur, nobody knows what the **** is going on, etc... I think most of them are just venting but I realize some probably know what they're talking about.

Just wondering, if another country is against your ideas and up to a point where you find a yourself in a case like the Russia and the USA, does that mean that the enemy is a TERRORIST?

I think they are full of shit. It's not like the citizens have any ability to strengthen the electrical infrastructure of the nation, so I'm not sure why they tell us. Go complain to Russia or China, don't make it public. That only tells me they are using it as a way to control the public. Just flick the panic switch, and people will be ready to go to war.

Anyway, buy a generator and/or a wind up emergency radio if you want to be ready for an emergency:

I mean because the main threat is being cut off from information. Obviously there are many types of portable radios, but the wind up one is sure to work even if it sits in a drawer for many years.

I think people have the right to know... I dunno if in (2003, 2004?) you were affected by that Big Blackout?

I was in it for two full days, but it only took 20 hours to run out of clean drinking water.

(Luckily my father had decided to bottle water in milk jugs only an hour after the blackout had occurred)
