Squad in the HUD

That rymes!!!

In the E3 2004 HUD, when you're about to attack 2 striders(this is shown 2 times, in the beginning of the vid, @ around 10 mins. and @ about 21 mins.) you can see 'squad follow' or something like that in the bottem right corner, where the gamespy logo is. I think you can control a squad or something with it.

Anyone?

Valve has said that the controls to 'use' your fellow NPCs are pretty andvanced. So a pretty basic command such as Squad Follow is bound to be in there.

yea, we'll see how much of a squad it is when I point them in the direction of a strider.

It'll be a very quiet squad.

You'll probably get the message that YOU are the squadleader....and that YOU should handle that situation... :D

How the hell does Grodon communicate with the squad though - I mean in games like Freedom fighters and brothers in arms we give out voice commands, but Gordon is mute and all...

Gawd lets hope not.

I would use them as a distraction while i leg it! Is that cowardly or cruel in any way?

lol.

No but i mean you could use them to distract somone or somthing and then have another group flank the bastards! Right?

I hate squad levels. I hated them in flashpoint. You just want to be a regular guy, running with your team. Until AI is better squad stuff is too anoying.

Like those games where you have to protect somone, and they just run off into the enemys gunfire and fall into a pit of lava.

I've seen three different e3 2004-videos, and not one of them contained a Strider.

Call of Duty solved it pretty good though. Not coz their AI was so good though.

The key is to keeping your eyes open all the way through the videos. Otherwise it's just radio.

WTF?! In that weblink...
It goes to the site, and a gay add for a phone appears, one of those new interactive adds that blocks the screen.
I close it to see the picture..then move the screen left and right to see the whole picture. I see a section of the picture change its lighting as I move the screen left and right...

Sure enough I move the screen down and there is the bloody add..faint and superimposing itself over the image in the middle of the screen. Thats SUBLIMINAL advertising if I have ever seen it.

LOL i think he means...

actually i have no idea...

Opening your eyes might help.

Call of Duty Solved it Alright.
By making a select few characters of the squad friggin INVINCIBLE!

Cool feature you can move squads around. They had better put squad management into the hazard course!

i think its cool because we have the option of using the commands or not, its up to the player and how they want to handle the situation.

im wondering is Barney or Alyx will be part of your squad, as these are characters in their own right and not the samae old resistance fighters, surely they tell you what to do?
anyone noticed in the screeny taht the person is aiming directly at the striders leg joint?
confirming a way to take it down?... maybe? Thats for another thread though... so nevermind :D

Squads might be fun but HL is all about going it alone so i hope they don't put to much emphasise on such things.

On the hazard course front i hope they do another kick arse level because that stuff was awesome

So true. I find it so annoying controlling squads. Too many buttons and selections usually. End up having to replay the same mission over and over trying to ensure atleast 50% of the squad survives.

i heard from other sites that in hl2 gordon talks

Remember the E-3 2003 demo where Gordon led the ant lions into the hallway with automatic turrets as a distraction and they all died a horrible death? That is what I want to use my squad for ;)

Ahh, but you're forgetting that Valve have said that if you give your teammates unreasonable orders or ask them to do things they feel they are inequipped to do, they will basically tell you to FO. The intriguing thing about it is, just because you order your squad to go and get butchered by a Strider, doesn't mean they'll listen ... ;)

Then whats the point of them being on your team?

Follow commands and save the world or die?
