This is an idea I have no intention of persuing, just felt like suggesting it. Players would be squirrels, fighting in a densely forested neighborhood. Players would have wallclimb allowing them to move rapidly through the tree branches. While mapping the trees would be a pain in the rear, being able to move through a forest like an actual squirrel would be pretty sweet. Maybe the players can throw nuts as long range weapons or something...

Actually its a good idea, except you overlooked the most obvious point... There are already "squirrels" in the game: Headcrabs. Make them climb walls, throw out barnacle like grapnel hooks, jump on other headcrabs to kill them, etc. Much better than a stupid squirrel :p

no way, a squirl would own. Even have a special class of flying squirls that can make long jumps from tree to tree.

hell yes and then there could be like a boy who lives in the house and leaves for school or whatever and we could all mass attack him (he would be an NPC) we could call it "the night the squirrels rebelled"

this is a great idea lets do it. its so silly and awesome, we could break into the house and knock everything over (with teamwork) and the mother would run around crazy and we throw nuts at her and break open the fridge and get all the food. oh man i want this now

If you could trick the NS team into sharing the skulk wall climb code with you it could prolly be done pretty easily. Strangely it sounds kinda fun but I think the gimmick would wear off pretty quick unless you fleshed out the gameplay a little better. I've heard worse ideas hehe.

The NS skulk's wall climbing sucks from the FPS view. It would be better if the player would see as if "up" was the normal vector of the surface he is climbing on.

I'd love to see a mod like this with a giant human or two facing a whole server of angry little squirrels... sort of like a funny, real-world version of Giants: Citizen Kabuto.

...you could design your own creature? That'd be neat.

i agree

But that causes your stomach to turn if you end up running over complex geometry. In AvP, as the alien, when you ran across piping, the camera would spin wildly as the normal vector would change to that of each surface of the pipe. Eurgh.

Obviously the transitions between two angles would be smoothed so you don't jerk around a lot... and you could use an invisible hull with very simple geometry that covers complex geometry like pipes. There are plenty of ways to make it work.

This sounds fun actually.. i think it should be third person though so its a little easier to navigate and you can see the fur moving and stuff. Invading a house would be awesome too :D

Although the idea is enjoyable, it's pretty gimmicky, and I don't see many people playing it beyond a few days - after you've thrown a few acorns, and climbed a few walls, there's not much else you can do.

If you can come up with a functional gameplay model, it just might work. Especially since it's not using copyrighted materials! Yay!

what teh shit ? err could be fun... or.. not

It would be great for a while, but I fear the novelty would soon wear off =/

As with all good games, you have to have solid gameplay mechanics to keep people coming back for more. Most games made by Nintendo sound silly and gimmicky if you just hear the concept... but the awesome gameplay makes them classics. Playing as squirrels would just be the visual theme of the game. A weird concept like that could draw a lot of publicity/people quickly instead of waiting for news of your good gameplay to spread.

Thats a really cool idea. Can't say as I've heard of a game like that before. Do a good job and it could end up being quite a popular mod. nice one :)

like

like I said, I am not going to persue this idea. I'm already buisy with corporate anarchy.

Thats a shame :(

Kinda like hollywood though isn't it. People go for the mainstream stuff and forget about the original and interesting things. Oh well was a cool idea while it lasted :)

When the gameplay wears off.. after around six years we could do:

Squirrels 2: Urban Warfare

And use all the City 17 maps.. perfect. Can't you see those squirrels ripping the gas masks off the combine soldiers? Squirrels piloting the Stalkers??

It could make the old C17 maps more interesting, by dropping the players in as much smaller versions, places you couldn't go before you could now, and the maps would seem much bigger.

You could have hit on something there :D

i'll help you make it Cerberus, when you finish Corporate Anarchy :p

Why is everyone loving such a simple idea when I proposed Mongolian War with nutter Mongolians killing other Mongolians and no-one liked it?

Cerberus, what made you come up with that idea? LOL!

I actually had a crazy idea instead of your conventional mod. I am writing a document on it now (mainly because the Vehicle combat mod did not get as much intrest as I had hoped)

My new mod idea is called Data Handler. Its pritty crazy if I had to simpily put it then "your in a world of data, no physical objects are used such as bullets or weapons. Instead the world is run by viruses and programs."

Hehehe, its hard to come up with a visual idea of it from that. But you will see :D

Is it like Tron, "HackNet" (in Neocron), etc?

kinda, The only real thing they have in common though would be the actual enviroment.

Reminds me of the classic game 'Inner Space'. You created a small space-ship (by picking an existing sprite, or drawing your own), and your mission was to rescue all the icons on your computer. That's right - the icons on YOUR computer. It'd check everywhere on the computer, and import the icons into the game as little objects. And in between that you had to shoot viruses, and avoid pirates, and other whatnot. Fantastic game, shame it doesn't work on my computer anymore.
