STALKER Problems: Need Help (50% more Rant!)

Okay, STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl is really pissing me off. I bought it off Steam and started playing it a few days ago. Now, I must admit, bad graphics aside, this game is okay. Maybe even pretty good. But the quality of the menus (30 minute wait to get through the advertisements in the beginning) and sounds, and hardware issues are just plain bullshit. This is where I need help.

So I'm in a mission to kill some sniper for some guy, right? So I do it, and I go talk to the guy who gave me the mission to get my reward. So I press F and the game ****ing shuts down without any hint in-game or indication whatsoever. So i go,"Okay, just a bug.." and get back on again. I do it again, this time I press F6 to quicksave (which, in the main menu, it is clearly stated that this IS the quicksave option) and guess what? IT ****ING SHUTS DOWN THE GAME. I do other test by pressing random buttons sometimes, and the game crashes.

What the hell is this? Does anybody have any problems remotely related to what I've got? Recommendations?

I ****ing hate this game right now.

Oh yeah, in STALKER who the **** has wrists that small? I mean, Jesus Christ they are ****ing toothpicks with little fleshy appendages on them.
 
The save bug was suppose to be fixed in the 1.6 update; was there a 1.6 update for steam?
 
I think I recognize that mission btw, I think it's optional. So in case nothing works, you can just go straight to Red Forest.
 
But when I kill the sniper and go back to get the reward, sometimes he is dead from the sniper. :eek:

Anyways, how would I install an update for this game if Steam doesn't provide any?

That is absolutely the mission I'm thinking about then. It's pretty annoying imo, I preferred to be a loner.
 
Hmm, it sounds like I should not buy this game from Steam...
 
This is really frustrating, and I am mad at the devs. Why oh why.

Maybe avoid the mission? Also patch it and upgrade your computer. If possible shut down as many unnecessary background programs as you can. It might be crashing due because it detects an invalid program, but if it was this problem it would be crashing for you at startup. It's a good game i hope you figure out the prob...

I don't know,I played this game without Steam (official russian version) and it had no bugs even in initial release.The graphics are very,very good and there's no ads in main menu.
The update for non-Steam game may get to work on Steam.Try it..after a backup.

My information may be of use to you, Stalker. Ba ha ha!

Steam will autopatch it, no? As in, you can't avoid patches if they're available? I wouldn't patch past 1.004 for mod compatibility. If you haven't played the game yet, there are mods available that just fix the bugs (why the F these fixes aren't included in the updates is weird) and don't tweak anything else. For the record, Stalker is a damn buggy game, so save often. It is, however, a wonderful game with one of the most immersive environments I've played in.

Taviow, I replaced the existing .exe (which was the same) with the one you gave me. Testing now.

Wow what's the deal with all the bugs on the Steam version? For any potential STALKER players - get the the non-Steam version, I haven't had any technical problems whatsoever.

I have a:

8800GT, 32-Bit Vista, Quad Core 2.4ghz CPU, 4 gigs of RAM, and some mobo that I don't know of.

Is it possible I can return the Steam version? Because if that is the case, I will buy the CD. I don't think it's worth buying on Steam if it crashes whenever I crouch.

Bad graphics? What game are you playing? Or are you just an elitist fag?
