STALKER will be better than HL2 esp. after this delay.. check this out

I won't be buying it, sounds boring and quiet and isolated, meh I like teamwork games.

I can't wait for STALKER, the E3 trailer alone is incredible. The huge environments, the stealth gameplay, and the graphics (which are on HL-2 level if not slightly better. When the video goes from real footage to in-game, I didn't notice at first!).

Agree... you seen some of the movies that are out... man this game is going be good.

and this is just one of many kick ass FPS coming out Q1 next year... these new FPS will hurt HL2 sells since it will be delayed to April.

yeah when they transistion between live footage and gameplay you couldnt tell hardly in the video...

holy crap ... this game looks amazing. give any info you can plz

oblivion-lost.com is the best site for stalker, we need some more members on the forums and we have the most compleate colection of screens

Q: What requirements S.T.A.L.K.E.R. will have?
A: The minimal specifications for the game are:
P3-600 MHz/Athlon, 128 Mb RAM, GeForce 2 64 Mb (or analog).

Recommended specifications:
P3-1 GHz/Athlon, 256 Mb RAM, GeForce 3 64 Mb (or analog).
The peculiarities of hardware market for PC have set the following pattern for games: the weaker is the computer and the older is the video board, the less detailed game world and less effects the player can obtain. The more powerful computer and video board the player has, the greater detailing and more eye candy he can get. But in both of the options, no gameplay differences are imposed.
Video board generations GeForce 2, GeForce 3, GeForce 4, GeForce FX and their analogues have drastic differences, as in architecture, so as in possibilities. That's why, the more technologically advanced video board you have, the more visual effects you can get. For example, effects based on pixel and vertex shaders can be seen only with boards starting from GerForce 3, such as beautiful water surfaces (pixel shaders). On GeForce 2 you will have water too, but that done only with an animated texture. Owners of GeForce FX class video boards will see dynamic light sources and soft (!) dynamic shadows, cast from everything onto everything (!), as well as bump-mapping on all the surfaces, which at least excels the technology of Doom 3. Players with video boards of the previous generations will see a simplified model of dynamic lighting and shadows, which, for instance, can be seen in PC version of Silent Hill 2.
In the options menu you will see graphical settings you can adjust to attain a desired correlation of detailing and effects to performance, or, by pressing a correspondent key, you will let the game make the adjustment automatically.

Def gonna buy this game. Although I'm basically buying all the new games that come out. They're all so nice looking

When is it out, I've hear Q1 04 thru Q4 04....? This is the only game worthy of being referred to as an HL-2 killer, and its going to be a great fight between the two with such close release dates.

STALKER will be better than HL2 esp. after this delay.. check this out

I don't know about it being better then HL2, but it will be out before HL2 atleast.

This game takes globally oriented AI to the next level....no two single player campaigns will ever be the same.

It says on their site Q1.. about the time HL2 is due out based on the new info about a April launch.

Glad to be of help on the info...

it may sell, but we all know that hl2 is going to kill any game when it comes out.hl2 has an army of deticated fans, plus we ll want the multiplayer :)

STALKER is also multiplayer with a shit load more features than HL2 has... I think the STALKER is the next HL in terms of fan base... the word is just now getting around about this.

ravenkil, do you like, work for whoever is making stalker or something? Would you stop pimping it, please? I'm sure it's a great game, but you don't need to shove it down our throats.

multiplayer? multiplayer? multiplayer? multiplayer? multiplayer? multiplayer? multiplayer?

a). This is the HL2 discussion forum, go to general.
b). We don't know the features HL2 has MP-wise.
c). The 'word' isn't just now getting around about this game, many people have known about it for quite some time, even more so after E3.

lol, no it doesn't. It practically has the same multiplayer modes as any standard shooter. Team DM, DM, co-op, humans vs aliens. I'm not really seeing anything extra there, are you?

Taken from the FAQ:

Q: Will there be multiplayer? What multiplayer modes will be available in the game?
A: We will have multiplayer part in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.. What's planned are standard modes, such as Deathmatch, Team Match and Cooperative, as well as new types of network battles (MutantsVSHumans). The main focus of attention for the players, as we believe, will be the Cooperative play - a mode to play the game through in a team - a virtually on-line game, where up to several dozens of players

Oh, and about fan base. I think the fact that there are dozens of mods already producing stuff for HL2 shows a massive fanbase for the game. While Stalker looks like it'll be a great game, HL2 will have a bigger fan base because of the mods that will come out. CS2 and TF2 alone could make it extremely popular.

holy god mother of jesus, thats the best thing i've ever seen..
jesus christ.

Exactly.

Whats so new that most other online shooters don't have. Am I missing something here?

MODs????

The damn SDK hasn't even been released.

All the mod sights just have concept drawings and renderings...

Yes, those would be mods that are working on their content and planning for the game. This is a portion of the fanbase getting ready and doing as much as they can before the SDK comes out. Do you see the same sort of thing started for Stalker?

Again, I'm not putting Stalker down, I'm just saying that in terms of fanbase, HL2 will be bigger.

My jaw almost dropped - it had non-gibberish Russian in the game - then I realized it was a Russian company. Yet - I have to see an American developer have Russian in a game that is not gibberish.

Stalker is not Half-Life 2 discussion. Moed to off-topic.

from the faq:

Q: Will the game engine support custom mods and maps like the quake and unreal engines do?

A: We plan to release tools to allow making mods, and, possibly, even levels.
The idea for now is as follows - players will be making their own parts of the Zone filled with events. Those modules, which have received our approval can be connected to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to expand the Zone in this way. Most likely, you'll be able to create your own Zone, not tied to that in the game. Something similar has been done in Neverwinter Nights.

I never said people weren't capable of making mods for it, I said people hadn't started en masse like they have for HL2.

many people HAVENT heard about it (or much about it), and this is very informative to the people who are basically looking for something new to look at because theyre sick of waiting for HL2. I know this isnt coming out for a while, but its something else that i can spend time getting into and looking up stuff about, and i doubt theyll delay it hundreds of times either. I just got into a new game that looks like it could easily compete with HL2, of course ill end up buying both, but i could only thank ravenkil for helping me out with this, i cant believe i was about to miss out on such a great looking game.

i do believe that ultimately, HL2 is going to be a bigger game. i mean, itll take time for STALKER to be a game anywhere near HL2. EVERYONEs heard of HL, so they have a much bigger fan-base, and that draws the attention to more mods and whatnot. but STALKER looks beautiful
