Is this a continuity error when obi wan says he does not recognize r2d2? Or is it in a weird way intentional?

He's been living in the desert for like 20 something years, it's possible he forgot the droid? There was a lot going on back then, with the slaughtering of the jedi and the big failure that was obi-wan as a trainer/leader.

he knew r2d2 first hand, and knew him very well, i dont see how someone would forget such a close companion

The only seperation between the appearence of astromech droids is betwen their versions. Obi Wan would have known R2 through his personality, and having only spent a short time with him after years of separation is is quite plausible that he forgot him.

lol lucas sucks lol

Actually, what he said was that he did not remember owning a droid. He never owned R2, did he?

Star Wars: A New Hope.

Maybe Lucas was being clever. Or maybe just WRONG. SO WRONG.

Obiwan pretended not to know him -- remember, he was lying to luke the entire movie.

I love how over the span of say 20 years the ways of the Jedi and the force are nothing but an ancient, supernatural religion to some.

Lucas didn't know the plot of the first three movies when he wrote the script to EP IV.

The wider public didn't seem to have a problem with the republic wiping the Jedi out, I don't think it's a big stretch to say that people mistrusted/disbelieved the Jedi before that.

This but only on semantics.

The bigger continuity screw up between he trilogies is in Ep6 when Leia remembers her 'real' mother.
Or, also in Ep6, when Obi-Wan says that Luke's Uncle Own didn't want Anakin to get involved even though they had never met when Anakin left.
Or in Ep4 when Obi-Wan says that he hasn't gone by the name of 'Obi-Wan' since, "long before you were born."

I get the feeling that originally Anakin left for the war after it has started as a young man, perhaps with a wife already, became a pilot, was discovered by the Jedi, entered Jedi training, turned to the darkside and then fought Obi-Wan. This seems to fit lines like, "When I left you I was but the learner, now I am the Master" better.

Of course we'll never know, Lucas doesn't discuss things like this - his 'one vision' for Star Wars has changed so often.

Order 66 took care of most of the Jedi, and most of the public cheered when Palpatine said he'd take care of the Jedi.

So of course with most of the Jedi gone, it's no surprise that after 20 years people would believe the ways of the force as hokey.

Lucas has absolutely no idea what he's doing and he never has.

His best results are when he is part of a team - contributing but not in charge. The production of Ep4 was chaotic, Ep5 the screenplay and directing were done by other people, he worked with Speilburg for Indiana Jones. He needs people to tell him when his ideas are good and when they are bad. For example the original text scroll for Ep4 was like 6+ paragraphs until he showed it to some friends and they said, "no it's far too long" and helped him shorten it. The prequel trilogy does have some good idea's in it, it's just that they are really poorly implemented.

I'd say he's also when he doesn't have some 'vision' bullshit he's sticking to. American Graffiti? He didn't give a crap about the fine details of the thing, he just let it go as it did, let the actors play the roles as they wanted, and included screwups. And it's a good movie.

Lucas doesn't get the difference between good acting and bad acting. Harrison Ford said that on the set of Ep4 if an actor wanted to discuss how to say a particular line Lucas would be like, "WTF? Say it like how it's written in the script."

"Faster, more intense."

Yes, the same senate chamber that cheered when Palpatine declared the Jedi – the keepers of peace and justice – enemies of the Republic and who were to be hunted down without mercy or trial. The same senate chamber that cheered when countless star systems lost their political voice as Palpatine declared himself Emperor of the Galaxy and babbled on about a safe and secure society. Are the flags not waving, oh mighty REPUBLIC of FREEDOM and DEMOCRACY?

If he actually took his time with writing the story and making it as fleshed out as possible, it probably would've made so much more sense.

Really, he's that bad as an actor?

Oh well, at least all the actors have grown out of it.

Is it Stephen or George Directing in Indy 4?

How does wanting to know how to play a character make one a bad actor?

"Say it like how it's written in the script" must be one of the worst directions ever.

Fords carrer is the only one not recked by starwars.

none of them had a career before star wars so what's to wreck?

oh and

NERDS!!!!

his career had fizzled in the 70's ,,he barely worked and mostly in tv

Debateable as to the "fizzling", but anyway - Frank Oz.

George Lucas: lame enough to actually call the fat guy Porkins.

What do you mean lame? That was the best move he ever made.
