SearanoX said:Yes, the prequels basically ruined my faith in George Lucas and the others working on the films. I believe the reason Star Wars has become so...poor over recent films is not only technology, but atmosphere.
Star Wars was originally a fun, relatively lighthearted movie series that never took itself too seriously. There were plenty of jokes here and there, and even though the plot did get heavy in some places, the series never lost its atmosphere. It was a reliving of childhood fantasy, I think.
Now, with the new Star Wars movies, we have wars, giant robots, and characters that are too generic for their own good. The charm has been replaced with seriousness, the jokes are gone, and the style is gone. Star Wars always had an identifiable style in its direction - not so much in terms of camera angles or lighting, but in mood and atmosphere. The atmosphere has disappeared in the last two movies.
To surmise, I don't think Star Wars should be about huge armies and dark characters, or political schemes and massive space battles. The series was never anything amazing (although technically superb for its time), but it was the sum of all parts that made it so good. Now, something in the equation is missing. Whether it be likeable and identifiable characters or the substitution of plot and originality with special effects, I think that Episode III, like its prequels, will be, simply put, "generic."
Damn my monologues.
Yeah, you're right. There was a good element of fun in the earlier films. I remember watching all three of them a while ago after I hadn't seem them for a few years, and I had forgotten how fun they were.SearanoX said:Yes, the prequels basically ruined my faith in George Lucas and the others working on the films. Fishlore said:I watched, and practically lived, the Original Trilogy for many many years when I was a child (born in '76). There wasn't a single story/movie/comic/show that gripped me tighter than the Star Wars Universe did at that time. Was it because the OT was so much better? Partly, but mostly because I was a kid with a huge imagination and Star Wars was a new world to explore.
All of a sudden I'm in my mid twenties and they release more Star Wars movies. How can a twenty something attach the same feelings to Star Wars that a kid could? It's impossible. In my opinion the new movies could have been better than the originals and I still wouldn't feel the same magic I did as a kid. Adults just don't have that same type of imagination that they did as kids.
I'm not saying that the new movies are as good artistically, far from it. I'm just saying that even if they were better, adults still might not feel as strongly as they did as kids.
Oh yeah and the trailer looks awesome.
Damn...I don't got bittorrent. ;(ScORCHo said:

I remember the merchandise as well, I had an X-wing and snowspeeder. I got all the PC starwars game bar 'rebel assault 2','yoda's story' and the one featuring you as Dash Render (forgot the title)
gh0st said:No the one featuring Dash Rendar is Shadows of the Empire. Its based on the (really good) book.
gh0st said:I have never been this excited. I actually got goosebumps during the trailer? Wow.
