No one will EVER own a true retail DVD of the ORIGINAL Trilogy..

and on an even crappier(IMO) Star Wars theme...

I read in my local paper that the actor who played Anakin(Sebastian Shaw) in Return of the Jedi, died in 1994,and on the re-re-release of the "first" three movies, his face will be replaced with Hayden Christensen's during Vaders "redemption" and unmasking scene after the Emperor is killed...

seems kind of disrespectful to the memory of Sebastian Shaw..

BTW I saw this in the San Jose Mercury News about 2 or 3 days ago..right before release...

my earliest memory is the Millenium Falcon taking off from Mos Eisley spaceport..the big blue glow..the sounds...1 year old, taken to see "episode 4", and thats when it all started for me!!

That's really the problem, Lucas alters the old trilogy to suit the new trilogy instead of vice versa.

Heh, that's kinda funny because one of my earliest memories was also seeing Star Wars.

I remember that I was about three when I watched it, my family had taped the movies, but my memories are abit screwed up because I distinctly remember C3PO and R2D2 wandering around on tatooine, as well as Obi-Wan, but the next thing I remember was Darth Vader fighting Obi Wan with a lightsaber, so back then I assumed they were fighting in an underground bunker of Tatooine or something.

Another thing I remember was seeing the beginning of Return of the Jedi with the ship entering a big hangar, but I remember thinking the whole "good gang" was captured in there. I also remember some of the Endor forest battle.

well it quite obvious how scarred people really are when it comes to hollywood remaking classics and pretty much screwing them up.
i guess thats why u guys don't want a Star Wars remake.
as for me, it doesn't bother me if hollywood remakes a classic because if i love the movie, chances are i have it on DVD and thats good enough for me.

my opinion on this is simply that its a matter of time.
long after George Lucas is gone, someone is gonna come along and create a controversy (that is if Lucas keeps to his "no remake" stance) and at that point, enough money will be thrown around for someone to fall to the remake temptations.

don't believe me? just take a look at all the classics which have been remade :p

No... reasons why?

After getting burned by the lava, Anakin was remade using alot of droid tech. he is now slower, and not as good with a lightsaber, yet still good with the forse itself.
Obi is very old now and had not used his lightsaber for a long time, thus he was not very good either.
Both Obi and Vader also had not used there lightsabers in a long time,
Luke didnt have much lightsaber training, normall jedis would of had years of training at the temple. In episode 5 and 6 he does get better though... but not by much.

All in all, Lucas did the fights slower for a reason in episodes 4-6, as only pre-empire days had fully trained jedis.
That's really pure speculation, the real reason Lucas decided to have slower light saber fights is because if they wern't slow then he couldn't have them. In 70's on a limited budget and no cgi, the only way you could make a lightsaber was to actually have a classbulb where the saber part was and if hit too hard it would break.

Lightsabers are hard to make without the assistance of computers, you'll notice that you actually see the beam going in and out more times in EP1 then you do in all the originals.

Nope, that's rubbish. They used wooden rods that were manually coloured in, frame by frame in post production.

True or not, I'd rather believe Ritz's theory while I'm sitting there watching the movies than some low budget excuse.

Are you sure? I remember reading somewhere that they were glass and that was why their movements were so slow, srry if im wrong.

Please no! All the wanking of the lovers of the original Starwars thrilogy is already painful.

Just imagine when they remake the classics! Argh...

Yes a remake IS needed! ...of the terrible wooden-acted-mass-cgi-poo-fests that are EP 1,2 and 3!

Lucas couldn't even introduce Vader to us with any style - the cinema were actually laughing at his 'Nooooooo' scream and Frankenstein's monster waddle :(

That DVD was released 2 years ago, and yes, he is replaced by Christensen, but only as a ghost. The scene with the removal of the helmet is still played by Sebastian.

Pi is right. And it wasn't just the lightsabers, all the lasers fired from blasters, tie fighters, etc... Oh and the Emperor's lightning powers too.

Infomation on the lightsabar issue ><
Lucas himself gave these reasons on the newly released dvd (Unsure if he gave those reasons before or not). The lightsaber beams where put in with rotascoping or whatever its called, I forget, but the lightsabers themselves where just rods, slightly shorter then whats in film. They did try to use certain reflecive tape but it didnt work. So try finding out facts before you speak alot of crap :(.

Also to the other person, what do you mean I dont own them on dvd? Unless you been the first unedited or remastered etc etc versons, then of coruse I dont, but you are being very picky if you mean them.

and if you look closely on eps 4,5, and 6, you can see reflections and shadows of the stick they use for the lightsabres.
