In Comrade Badger's thread, people choose LOTR over SW. When SW was mentioned, they were thinking of those new prequels. But what about the originals?

Lord of the Rings. Each movie was better than the last. With Star Wars, it wasn't as consistently good.

i grew up with SW and im not a bigfan of fantasy stuff, LOTR had some gr8 stuff but overall my favourite is SW ^^ (dont flame me now :p )

Hmmm... I don't really class any of them as been amazing films. Star Wars... hmmm.... If you actually like really watch it, your realise how bad the acting is and how terrible the directing is. I think quiet a lot of people class it as a good film because ti was good for its time. Kinda like Half-life 1 really. LOTR well... its to melodramatic in all the wrong places and doesn't really compile well as a film. The drama is done for to long and there is never any real joy. When Froodo got rid of the ring I was just... ow well.... wow... great.... normally if it was a good film it would be quiet an emotional moment. I dunno really. I am just jabbering on. Basiclly LOTR has badly done drama and Star wars is just an old classic that was never any good anyway. Simple :D

I voted LOTR because its got better CGI lol.

ESB was very well directed.... but then Lucas didnt direct it :D

The Lord of the Rings trilogy are the best films ever made in my opinion. The Return of the King is THE best film. I doubt that any film/trilogy could beat the quality of those films anytime soon.

Thus your avatar...

The Lord of the Rings by far. I'm a fan of Star wars, don't get me wrong. The Lord of the Rings is just better suited towards my tastes (I'm just a fantasy fan more than a sci-fi fan), and I feel that technically (as in pacing, writing, etc.) the LOTR trilogy is superior to anything out there, including Star Wars.

there was a time when everything George Lucas touched turned to gold. now it seems he's having quite a bit of bad luck. the man with the golden touch at the moment seems to be Peter Jackson.

my preference is for Star Wars because it had more of an affect on me than LOTR. both very similar trilogys. they both tackle similar themes and ideas.

but SW has lightsabers :cheese:

Sci-Fi nerds vs D&D nerds!

ill have to go with Sci-Fi, the lightsaber is just to much to resist.

Star Wars of course. LotR was great, especially the books and even more The Silmarilion(spelling?). But the 20+ years old Star Wars trilogy is unbeatable.

neither for me.....they both toss off monkeys

what a wonderfully useful post, . thanks for your penny's worth, literally :p

Lotr,, the effort envolved in those movies, is so staggering. it beats SW flat out, but im a Star wars fan gone sour, :( I blame Lucas's new movies.

i like em both as much...but i think star wars is the winner...

LOTR didn't have any canteenas, thus no music with the funky instruments.

Vote, SW

Lord of the Rings and it's probably because of the books. I love star wars (excluding prequels), but Lord of the Rings had much more emotional impact on me. Anyway i grew up with LOTR. My father would read them to me as bedtime stories. If i have kids, i will do the same.

I didn't like the original Star Wars all that much...I think it's because I saw Episode 1 first, then saw the originals...

I liked Episode II A hell of a lot though...

I voted Star Wars.
I loved LOTR though.

The reason I voted Star Wars was because:
Characters appeal to me more.
Classic music.
Love the environment (Lightsabers/Jedi/Xwings/Ewoks)
I generally like Si-Fi/space over Fantasy.
And it was just a Classic series.

In a few years you younger kids will think LOTR as a classic as well and be in my seat. A new popular trilogy will come along that just doesn't fit your tastes as well and isn't classic like your LOTR. ;)
