I have heard from people that there is going to be 3 new Star Wars movies. Does anyone know anything about this?

Theoretically, when George Lucas came up with the saga, there was supposed to be 9 episodes in total. However, Lucas has said that the last 3 will never be made bacause a) he's too old to be a part of it, and b) there wouldn't be much of a story left to tell.

Good news is that Star Wars will be coming to TV in the not so distant future.

That's not really good news.

We'll most likely get horrible actors and cheap-standard-low-budget-TV-show-special-effects.

I thought you meant the Limited Edition Star Wars Non-Special Editions, Non-Directors-Cut DVDs that are coming out that have the original un-altered films on one disk and the newer altered films on the other disk.

They're only out for 4 months. :O Can anyone say... eBay?

Thats what I thought. Who would even care about new ones? Jedi ended quite nicely for me thank you very much.

If the Star Wars show was anything like Firefly, it could be successful.

But not better than Firefly.

less space operas/westerns more science fiction as far as I'm concerned. Although I havent seen firefly science fiction on tv sucks with very few exceptions ..it just has to appeal to the lowest common denominator and that's usually counter productive when trying to follow a creative vision ...that's how you get big breasted Vulcans wearing tight fitting clothing or space cowboys navigating their way through asteroid belts ..it's just absolutely rediculous

I think Firefly is the closest we'll ever come to with good science fiction on television.

You really should rent the DVD boxset one day Stern, the show is really amazing. It's a western/science fiction like Star Trek, but way more western.

Personally I really hated firely. Cheap sets, bad acting. Also, I know there's not supposed to be sound in space but damnit its just uninteresting to watch ships duke it out in space with no sound!

I dont know it kinda looks a bit too campy for me ..certainly not in the vein of Andromeda but close enough (at first glance)

I think the original Twilight Zone has been the closest to real science fiction ever aired on tv

I want more sci-fi dramas that resemble that movie The Island, or Lost. Things that just really blow your mind and make you think about things. I mean, you can even pull this off in space, just make people question their perception of reality using plot twists. That was always my favorite part of sci-fi books, that they put interestingly fantastic yet possible things into consideration which really bent your perception of reality.

Where are you getting cheap sets and bad acting from? The acting is excellent and the only 'real' set is the ship.

If it ever becomes a series, I think it should be like an HBO series. Kind of like how Band of Brothers was made. You have an hour long episode, and only 10 or so episodes per season. That way you can give your special effects guys time to made good effects. Of course it wont help if you have crap for actors, but good actors still exist. If its going to be a new half hour episode every day, then its gunna suck nuts.

EDIT: oh, and Twilight Zone Fking Owned. They are making new ones now, but they arnt as good. Still better than most TV imo though.

Would the show incorporate movie characters?

And would the actors potray them in the show?

I think that's a good question

for the sets, big rusty pipes and vents just don't look that good for a ship. Maybe for an industrial supplier of deodorant or something, but not a freaking spaceship. Personally I'm more into the futuristic glowing panels and very clean metals of star trek and star wars. Also, the CGI renderings of serenity and the actual design of the ship is rather ugly. It simply doesnt look very graceful or cool, it just reminds me of some sort of wingless goose.

And for the acting I didn't neccesarily mean the actors but the writing and characther design. They seem kind of like space cowboys with few interesting qualities.

But of course, I'm only speaking from experiencing the first episode, after which I didn't watch anything else, so the show might have gotten better from there on...it just seemed too...andromeda-ish.
