This is perhaps the best indie game I have bought in terms of innovation (Yes it beats out Gish :o ). Its a turn based strategy game with collectable cards thrown in. Sounds bad I know, but the way it works is brilliant. Gamespot.com gave it a 8.8/10. A warning however, this is all gameplay, there is no flashy graphics/sound (although the card art is exceptional).

The game has:
Strategic Space Combat
Science-Fiction CCG
10 Alien Races
Hundreds of Online Opponents
Offline Computer Opponents
Web-Based Card Trading
Unlimited Free Trial

A starter pack only costs 20 dollars and the community has pooled all their commons into a CommonsPool to give those who want a complete deck of commons. This is by far the best community I have ever been a part of. Players are all helpful, nice, and generous, I know one guy (NameIsToad) who gives away his own cards in tournaments he makes. Oh yeah, there are four touraments a week of varying style with prizes (a $1 ticket is required to enter, but half walk away with more), not to mention player created tournaments. This is also very well supported, I have personally chatted/played with the creator and other staff, all very nice people.

I hope you atleast give this a try, since it is free. If you do decide to buy some cards, put BaconIsGood4You down as your Referrer.

I don't see the point in card games on the pc. Cards are an abstract representation of certain objects/effects/etc. On a computer you can render stuff like that (as Etherlords did), so why still use the limiting medium of cards? Even if you're not going to display every object represented by a card, the entire card thing is just another unnecessary abstraction layer in the GUI.

Of course if you're aiming for a specific card game feeling or implementing a 'card' buying business plan the point is somewhat moot.
