Seeing as the Diablo 3 thread was Starcraft-jacked...

Made this thread.
Soooo... discuss why it's the best game ever. :D

No way. /download

Why Starcraft rules. Balance. It is the most balanced game I've ever seen with more than 2 races.

Micro helps a ton. You can't just mass a bunch of one unit and expect to win. If the enemy has any inteligence, your army is dead.

Great voice acting! And the storyline was awesome.

I was going to make a long post here, but I decided to just get to the point.

Why they hell haven't they made SC2 yet?

I have not heard of it if they are. I only know about Ghost, which isn't realy SC2.

I HAVE NO ****ING IDEA BUT IT REALLY ANNOYS THE **** OUT OF ME.

Starcraft ties with HL as my favorite game of all time.

Ghost was never started by Blizzard. They basically had another company make it, first it was Nihilistic. They kept on delaying becauset they wern't satisified with Nihilistic's job. Thus after several delays they gave it to Swingin Ape Studio's, in which they acquired Swinin Ape's around E3 2005. Giving Blizzard another building and 40 new talented people.
Ghost is not Sc2.

Starcraft 2 has not been announced, and well we don't know when it will. It is still selling at a decent rate and you can still find it in shops.

Anyway starcraft has a killer story, nice voice acting, 3 totally diverse races, a *Holy ****ing Shit* balance level, amazing amount of tactics and strategies, etc....

And it should be built with the Shens technique in mind.

Hehe, I just picked it up a week ago. Was playing brood war a few minutes before I checked this thread.

i dont have a cat :(

im actually sending someone starcraft over msn right now...legally....lawl

the voice acting in Starcraft is phenomenal, as are the characters and the storyline.

I've never been a big RTS fan, but Blizzard's games have always gotten my money. They're well-made, well-balanced, polished, and fun to play.

But I have to say the main sticking point for me is non-gameplay elements. The great characters, the voice acting, and the utterly intriguing story. I think I've read the StarCraft manuals about fifty times just for the backstory. The space opera setting just feels more intricate than, say, the universes of Diablo and WarCraft. In those games it was pretty much a standard affair of good/evil, but StarCraft doesn't really go into that. It has so many shifting allegiances, "are they good or bad now?" moments with certain characters, and so forth. Arcturus Mengsk and General Duke were guys that I could never quite tell if I liked or disliked at given points throughout the timeline. And things like Samir Duran claiming to work for a higher power that has existed for many millennia - hinting at a return of the Xel'Naga - gives me goosebumps.
This is all helped tremendously by the wonderful cutscenes. A group of wise-cracking armored hicks pulling out beers from a cold-fusion bomb carrier is hilarious, and their subsequent slaughter is gruesome. And the ending video for Brood War in which Admiral DuGalle kills himself in the shame of his full retreat had an emotional impact on me like nothing else.

Did I also mention the music was great?

So basically my interest in StarCraft lies primarily in its canon.

My gaming wet dream is an MMOG in the SC universe. The very idea of running through battle-worn trenches flooded with the fighting of firebats and zerg as airborne players dogfight in the sky would be sex.

I'd take it any time over sex if that were realized :O

 :x *backs away*

Starcraft is infact one of the best RTS i've ever played.

Sometimes I wished they made an MMO on Starcraft. That'd be sweet! :D

command and conquer (1) owns starcraft's cutscenes/voice acting and total annihilation owns it in the rts aspect.

: D

Man...starcraft in an MMO world? How about starcraft MMO where you can "join" games as a large group to fight them. 1 person is commander and builds the base the rest of the players are like normal units. The commander can build wep upgrades, various other stuff(heal, temp dmg/hp/speed boost), build defenses, make ultimate units that kick arse(ie. uber archon) that kicks ass to a shens point to give that team a big advantage(not omgwtf h4x we lose kinda advantage). Man...I kinda described alterca valey in WOW mixed with original starcraft/natural selection/savage.

In any case, a game like that would be cool. Natural selection owns, savage blew and starcraft owns but lacks any type of fps/rpg element.

Starcraft+battlefield2= teh winnar
Love Starcraft. The music, while not all fancy and orchestrated has this really unique sound to it that i am oddly in love with and always gives me a feeling of adventure. I wish the humans would have more upgrades and stuff in SP, never really liked the on-foot missions where you wonder around a huge ass bulding teleporting everywhere. But all in all an amazingly awesome game.

Break the EULA and decompile it?

Other than that, search the internets for some 20 hrs. :p

Or how about just use a Mpq extrator... lol.

I mean cmon Blizzard even released a tool to extract every starcraft sound.

Star craft was a good game, But i dont hold it up on the godlike pedestal most gamers do. Its not THAT great.

Quake 1, on the other hand... That game was revolutionary for my gaming, with team fortress... etc. No other game did I play as much as that one, I dont think.

Except for dragonrealms.

Has Quake 1 stood the test of time like Starcraft?
No. No game has stood the test of time like Starcraft. No Game is 7-8 years old.. no major mods... and can still pull up to 150,000 players at times. Ecspecially an RTS.

Anyway, Starcraft wasn't a "Revolution" But rather took the RTS bar, shoved it up the other RTS's asses, and said "I am the bar ****ers".
No one has touched that bar today. I am not saying some games have pulled certain things off better, but no game even newer RTS's can still attract so many players. Starcraft is a perfectly paced, perfectly balanced, perfect diversity, and has an editor that still puts newer ones to shame(Not Wc3's of course).

LOL. No need to bite my head off. I wasnt trying to compare one of my most memorable games to yours.

I just don't think Starcraft was really all that. Nothing wrong with that opinion.

Yeah, I downloaded that. Got every sound file EXCEPT the music. :\
