...to help me brainstorm a name for my Starcraft 2 fansite! I decided years ago that I would make one as soon as it was announced, and the hour of my ascention is nigh. Now, obviously, most straightforward names are already registered domains and I can't use those; I'm looking for something creative, like Half-Life Fallout, but for Starcraft 2. Unfortunately, I'm better at actually making the websites than I am coming up with names for them, so I need help.

I don't want to call it something mediocre and generic like Starcraft 2 Central or anything - I want something more distinct, but still recognizably starcraft; thus it needs to have Starcraft or Starcraft 2 in the name.

Help me, o my brothers!

Starcraft2.net

Or you're a traitor.

Oops, already exists. Too late, traitor.

The door is down the hall on your left.

Danny, I'm thinking hard about that one.

Where's Cole when you need him?

"The Nexus"
thenexus.net

"The Conclave"
theconclave.net

"Siege Mode"
siegemode.net

Yeah, off the top of my head. Gonna think about it for a bit. The idea for a Newbie forum called "The Hatchery" came to mind.
I personally like "Siege Mode".

Ohh, Siege Mode is pretty hawt.

"My Life for Aiur"
mylifeforaiur.net

"Mine More Minerals"
minemoreminerals.net

:D

I think that name's a bit too long any way. Doesn't run off the tongue too nicely.

"That's The Stuff"

I jest. But if you don't get the reference, you need to die.

Was that the sound effect for the adrenaline stim things?

Been a looooong time since I've played Starcraft.

It'll probably die just like Munro's Supreme Commander site and Chris_D's Sin website.

There are probably 100 Starcraft fansites and at least 2 that are heavily used with thousands of users registered at their forums. Try and think of something unique that your fansite would provide.

Maybe devote it to custom fan missions or something since I'm guessing it'll come with an editor.

Yeah, that it was. The stims.

Your prize is an adrenaline shot! Enjoy.

Speaking of fan sites, what happened to Spore?

the site was hacked by turkish vagabonds, the game was delayed until late 2008 :( ;(

It died :(

Repeated hacking from an unknown source. I bet it was the other Spore fansites.

I was thinking about HellItsAboutTime.com - it's available - but it's too long, vague, and will lose relevance quickly, not to mention it's not catchy at all. StarcraftII.net/com/org is taken :(

I doubt there are any SC references I would miss, though maybe from the campaigns since I only played those through twice and both of them were more than five years ago.

At the moment, it's unrealistic to design the site as anything other than a general Starcraft resource, because we don't know much about anything specific... but I would niche it eventually, and as I'm inclined to modifications that might be a viable option. As far as FAIL goes, I'm not really interested in discussing that, nor am I particularly worried about it. I've been steadily working as a moderator here for 2 years and a community member for 3 and a half, and I like Starcraft even more than Half-Life, so it's not really a question of dedication :p

So far I'm thinking SiegeMode.com or .net is my favorite. It's catchy, Terran, recognizable to most people who have ever really played Starcraft, and it also implies the settling down for the long wait we have until release.

Okay, smoked a bit of grass. Gonna take a real go at this thing.

"Fire It Up"
fireitup.com

"The Dreamer Awakens"
thedreamerawakens.net

"Alpha Boys" (reference to Duke's Alpha Squadron, maybe too vague)
alphaboys.net

"Entaro Adun"
entaroadun.net

"Colonial Magistrate"
colonialmagistrate.net

"Psi Disruptor"
psidisruptor.net

"The Warp Gate"
thewarpgate.net

"Khala Is My Strength"
khalaismystrength.net

"Lockdown" (Ghost ability)
lockdown.net

"Fall of Aiur"
fallofaiur.net

"Reap The Whirlwind" (Ghost quote)
reapthewhirlwind.net

"Five by Five" (Dropship quote)
fivebyfive.net

"Thoughts in Chaos" (Dark Archon quote)
thoughtsinchaos.net

"Darkness Overpowering!" (Dark Archon quote)
darknessoverpowering.net

Meh... Pretty hit and miss. I still like "Siege Mode".

How about lingblood.net?

:D

no?

:(

maybe starcraft>you.net

LOL

no

lingblood, or rineblood sounds cool to me

tassadarsanctuary.net?

naw, something about lings. Cause lings own.

Lingrush?
lingblood is the only other I can think of.

Since Tassadar is one of my favorite characters, right behind Kerrigan, I'll have to think on this...

TassadarsAssention.net

I like TheQueenOfBlades.com

Shit, I'm not creative enough for this

Tie in (something)nation.net and we can have a network start with cncnation.net :O

This was an idea me and Pitzy had with supcomnation....that died i think o_O

Anyway you would be able to leach of cncnation.net until you take me over

D:

starcraftnation
terrannation
kerrigannation

Hell worth a thought ;)

I like a lot of the names proposed - I actually thought of Starcraft Nexus myself while brainstorming - but thus far SiegeMode.net is still in the lead.

As for other stuff to do with the site: I'll have all of the Starcraft 2 info available, post news with new stuff, etc, but what else should I do to make it special? I'd prefer this to be a content-centric site, not community-centric, at least not for a while. Do you guys think forums are a good idea? I liked the custom maps idea - closer to release I'll see if I can find someone with a lot of bandwidth/webspace to make that happen - but what else? A wiki?

So it seems my ideas have failed...ah well!

Wiki is a good idea (Munro paying attention!) i'd have a forum at first but keep it private just so people helping with the content if they're needed can discuss things

Heh Evo I did think about Starcraft2Nation but like I said I wanted something a little more distinct :p

That'd be interesting; an invite-only forum for the first few months, lots of tasty halflife2.net regulars, and then we open it up to the public, while simultaneously getting everyone to bring their friends.
