true?

I really loved the first movie, the second one was just total crap.
For those who think that the movie is just silly and unrealistic, i dont think you really got the point of the movie. Its suppose to be a satire of militarism and a facist view of the future. Also note that the book the film was based on was a COMIC book (the film was made serious and didnt follow much of the book).

Hope the 3rd one becomes better than the second one. The same actor of Rico comes back! :D

I'm just joking around, I don't think that actor has gotten much work lately.

Anyway, i loved the original SSTs but, i highly doubt this will be any good.

I dunno, with a return to the old cast I think this will succeed in being the real follow up the original. ST2 was dire.

I'm optimistic, and really looking forward to it. Wish they'd release screens/preview soon...

Hell no.

Only if the guy who directed the first is at the helm.

edit : Bah, it's another direct to DVD sequel.

Wow that movie still has amazing special effects even by today's standards.. what is it 10 years old now?

I remember hating this movie the first time I saw it. I thought the satire and random military ads in the movie brought the movie down but when I watched it again years later I appreciated it alot more.

Its now one of my favorite sci-fi movies and its only what I'd hope the Halo movie could be like.

I appreciate the satire and some of the more action-oriented scenes towards the end, but not much of the movie really ever clicked for me. Satire is just as improved by strong characters as any other genre, and Starship Troopers just never really provided that.

But when I was younger I was all about the show.

Starship Troopers is awesome, but the second film was just awful. I watched it once, I have it on DVD, but don't even remember what happened.

What the **** made you buy the DVD?!

I loved the first one, especially the way that it was an intelligent satire cunningly disguised as a gung-ho action movie. Paul Verhoeven is a very underrated director in my opinion.

Havent seen the second one, and I cant say I think this one'll be any good either.

Hell, I enjoyed the movie regardless of it's satire or tongue-in-cheek view on the military and stuff... it was just generally a kick ass movie. Bugs ripping apart soldiers, THOUSANDS of bullets everywhere, explosions, spaceships, dropships, SHOULDER MOUNTED NUCLEAR DEVICES!!, etc...

1 = amazing
2 = disgrace to movies
3 = ? Ill see it. Not hype what so ever for it tho.

I hope they have Ace in this one. He's the only main character from Rico's squad to have survived the first film.

It's extremely unlikely that Denise Richards or Neil Patrick Harris would reprise their roles as Carmen and Carl, but they can easily be written out of this movie. However, having Clancy Brown reprise his role as Sgt. Zim, even if it's just a cameo, would be great to see.

I prefer to see a faithful book to film version thank you.

but the first one was fun.

1 was awesome, which has been decided. It even had titties!!! WOOO!

I hope the 3rd one isn't as crappy as the second one :(

Anybody who was looking for strong characters or a sensible plot in Starship Troopers missed the point.

The whole thing was essentially a 1940's military promo gone bad. A bunch of good-looking men and women with bright smiles do their duty to become "TRUE CITIZENS". The result is a bunch pretty people getting ripped apart in a gruesome mess. And you are supposed to gasp. Or laugh. Or both. When a scene of soldiers smiling and passing out fully loaded weapons to school children is immediately followed by a newscast showing mutilated corpses of a massacre that just recently transpired, it's showing the insane (but not all too unreal) PR campaign covering the meatgrinder.

Really, the plot is just a throwaway excuse to see B-movie model/celebrities get mauled.

Admiral 1: A distant planet is hurling meteors at us! We have two options. We can either send our fleets to bombard the shitrock into dust, or we can deploy millions of ill-equipped and physically-outmatched marines onto the surface for close quarter combat with the bugs. Now, it's a delicate matter, but I think we all know which option is...

Admiral 2: DEPLOY THE MARINES.

Admiral 3: GENIUS.

Meh...I liked the book.

Movie was okay.

I've been wondering what that was referencing to for a long time. Eet has been revealed!

Like everyone said the first was great, especially all of the violence. Two was just horrible, it was like watching a cheap horror movie.

The first one was brilliant. CG-series on Fox Kids ftw though. :D

Its not that the characters have to even be original or likable, but they're what should keep you watching, even if its just because you really want to see that one guy get brained. And the propaganda gone wrong angle to it is just fine, and really obvious, but there needs to more than one note for the movie to beat on the whole time. It just always ends up feeling like 90210 with explosions, when theres some great potential there.
