Starship Troopers: Roughnecks

Yes. And I'm guessing since I can't actually remember anything about it, it didn't have any redeeming qualities.

Do you remember much about your childhood? :p

Quite a good series for something made in the 90s, man.

Why are they giving MI full body armor + enviromental suits? NOOO! They tough it out with a flak jacket and helmet!

I do remember this, and I seem to recall it wasn't all that crappy.

yeah i remember that, i wish someone would make a decent Starship Troopers FPS.

Yep, I used to watch it, although, I remember being extremely dissapointed that no one ever seemed to die in it, despite the movies being exceptionally gory.

That intro is Beethovan, man. Beethovan.

...I think.

Yeah, it is Beethovan. And I was a fanatic for Roughnecks when it was on the air. For its time it was far more intelligent than most kids shows and trying to do something new for kids TV. It was also pretty much the first show to try and use CG to substitute for something that would otherwise be live action, and do it on TV.

Of course now a lot of the CG is pretty painful to watch, and the show on the whole is less impressive than it was. But theres still some moments that are better than you'd expect (Razak's funeral, Chaz's death).

I was watching this the other day actually, the Hydora campaign to be accurate. I like it, and I remember loving it in the mornings before school, but what outs me off is the faces. I mean, the rest of the CGI is watchable and great for the time but the faces really detract from it for me.

Still cool, though.

Not as good as Space: Above and Beyond :p

I only started to like it a few episodes before they canceled it, so I only watched like 2.. If I remember correctly, it was a good show.

You made my day Jintor (its been a shitty day). Thought the movie was okay, but loved the series as a kid.

Yeah, I was like, 8 or something and watching them blow the shit out of plasma bugs. My favourite would probably have been that whole campaign when they were stuck on an asteroid which turned out to be a giant bug. Who'dve thunk it?

So great. They threw out all the red scare stuff that was in the movie, threw out all the sociology that was in the book, and just made a kick-ass cgi series about blowing shit up with your mates. Awesome stuff, to a kid. Pity a) they never finished it and b) The faces. :/

I think I watched 1 or 2 episodes, can't remember a damn thing about it except mech-like suits.

They made some insane number of episodes (my memory says about 48) in the space of a single season in a medium that was still in its infancy and with no money or time. Honestly it's importance in getting people interested in CG work probably can't be understated.

Oh god I forgot about this show.

I used to get up really early (for a kid anyway) and watching a couple of episodes before going to school.

Now that I see the intro again, I realize how crappy that CGI really was, lol.

don't recall this at all, what station supported it? fox? cartoon network?

You mean overstated?

Watching episodes of 'Pluto campaign' on youtube, this is ****ing awesome.

I remember getting up early before school just so I could watch this. Very good show!

The series was based more upon the book, than the film.

If I remember correctly the Alien race that were allies with the Arachnids just never appeared in the movie

Well, in the sense of technical accuracies. In the sense of promoting what the original author was promoting, they just tossed that shit out and made awesome CGI of bugs exploding and whatnot.

I don't really get what some of ucl guys are talking about with the faces. I just remember they really did look like roughnecks but, i don't really recall the faces looking bad for CG

Yes! I used to watch it whenever I could, but it came on too early for me (at like, 6 in the morning. But nowadays I get up at five. erngh :/)
