As I sit here now, I feel like puking. :p Went and had my blood pressure checked and I was shocked to discover that I had quite a high systolic pressure rate. :p I feel absolutely terrible. Short of breath, sweaty, and all around like a fat, un-healthy bastard. :p I'm changing that starting tomorrow.

A 3 mile power walk regimine at least three times a week to start with and I'm cutting sugars completely. (I never eat much sweet stuff to begin with, just loads of sweet iced and/or hot tea and coffee.) I have been eating lots of salty food too with preservatives, which can't be good either.

I used to exercise quite often when I had my bike (I miss my bike), but I wrecked it because some idiot nearly ran me over one day about two years ago now because he was driving like a jackass.

God I wish that guy's nice, brand-new Escalade was within rock-throwing distance at the time looking back now.

I felt much more energetic and healthy though when I was bike riding but now, I have no bike so power-walks will have to do. Wish me luck guys as I am to start bettering my health tomorrow! :)

lol, I know right?

Many folks here probably aren't that into fitness or anything. :p I've seen a few threads from time to time here at HL2.net from people who are concerned about their well being though.

I guess I'm hoping for a response from someone of that category. :)

I couldn't be arsed to join yet another forum though tbh.

Good luck man!

Even being a skinny bastard, I feel sooooo much better when I get into an exercise routine! Keep your routine maintainable, that's my primary advice! It's also good to do something interesting while you exercise, get an MP3 player for music, read a book while you walk, watch TV while on a treadmill, etc. If you can motivate a friend to do it with you, that's even more awesome . . .but even still you must continue your routine if they're not there!

Eventually, I'm planning on buying a treadmill for home & then building a custom desk around it, so I can casually walk and work on my computer at the same time.

Anyway, go for it dude! Before you know it, you'll be one sexy mutha****er :naughty:

What? Loads, if not most of the regulars here are fitness crazy.
Pesh has a lovely six-pack, if I remember the pics correctly.

EDIT: And by Short Recoil, Pesh means Terminator. Pretty sure he's Terminator now.

Good luck mate, I used to be a little fat ass back in the day now Im just a lanky little turd ;). My advice would be to run! About 4-5 years ago I lost about 40 pounds in just a few months eating salads, sandwiches and fruit and running atleast 2 times a day. 30 min in the morning and evening. It felt great!

Good luck man. You can do it, persistence is key.

I used to weigh 220 lbs. (typical fat ass) and over the course of about a year, i'm down to 158 lbs. through rigorous diet, and daily exercise.

I'm eating taco bell right now. I'm happy, and will remain so until I cannae see mah penis anymore.

Good luck. You may feel at times that you don't want to excerise, or you can't be assed or anything, or there is no point, etc. but speaking from expriance, it pays off, both mentally and physically.

I find it hard to continue with exercising routines that why I did martial arts, since I was doing something worthwhile while getting fit in the process. Dont do that anymore but I did it for so many years and get to such a high standard, I always maintain a high level of fitness. But definately try and make sure it realistic so you stick to it, never say you are gonna do 3 hours a day of something daft. Really, if you do the right exercises and do them properly, 20 minutes a day is really all you need to either slim out, get healthy or tone yourself up.

invest in a decent set of running shoes.

sportsshoe.co.uk i thikn is the one i went with,

Running IS better excercise than walking its almost the best form of excercise you can do by yourself without equipment. Unless you have joint issues in whihc case swim.

when i started running about a year ago i made it about 200m before i had to talk for fear of throwing up. But i worked at it kept running every other night and now i can run 10 kilometres : D

Work at it and it will pay off. you will feel great after even a 200m run, the breathing clears your lungs of any shite and the endorphines are great!

The way i stay motivated is reminding myself when i get back from running when ppl ask me where i ran i can tell them how far and know they will never manage it.

you need to pick the form of excercise right for you

GOOD LUCK,

dragon shirt!
I won't wear my dragon shirt when I exercise. It'll get all smelly and stained up with sweat. :p
I do have a similar dragon tank top I'll probably wear for such occasions though. :)

Thanks. I have a great pair of sketchers I use to exercise with, though they are getting a bit worn now.

I prefer to power-walk. Less stress on the joints than running and almost as efficient. Swimming is a no-go for now. I don't have access to a swimming pool anymore and I don't live close enough to any kind of beach or spring.

That's quite a feat. However, I don't like to push myself too hard, or I'll end up not wanting to exercise anymore. :p power-walking is where it's at. Get into a certain ryhthm while maintaining a steady pace works for me. I can go for miles keeping a fast and steady pace like this.

That's so true. I noticed my breathing and all-around energy levels were much better when I was biking

bragging rights does help improve motivation for sure.

Unfortunately, my favorite form of exercise is probably in a landfill somewhere now. :( I never bothered to repair my bike after that accident. I need to get a new one someday and start biking somewhere where there's less idiot drivers around. Too many f***ing illiterate rednecks that can't drive worth a shit around here.

...and to everyone else, thank you for your two cents! :)

Remember that if it doesn?t work out, don't be discouraged, and ask people around for what works for you.

I believe you exercise as a function of how much exercise you feel that you need. So don't exceed or do just the opposite. Trial and error is good, but make sure you don't **** up grand-ly.

You can check here, and see if there's a good routine for you to follow: www.bodybuilding.com .

Thanks evil^milk! I'll have too look into that later. Actually I'm thinking of starting right now as I type this. It's a beautiful day over here. :)

Saturos my only piece of advice to you is get a gym membership and find someone you can workout with. I never motivated myself till I found a lifting buddy that would encourage me. If you're serious about getting fit and don't want to dick around, weight training is the best way to go. if you have the money, I would even consider getting a personal trainer.

If you're a fat pos, you'll want to focus on a mix of cardio and weight training. But mostly cardio.

Run run run.

Dieting and cardio are both required to see any real weight loss.

You could eat perfect food and still be a fatass due to inactivity and slow metabolism.

Likewise, you can run like a marathoner and still be a fatass due to stuffing your face and putting those calories right back in.

Honestly, dieting is a hell of a lot more effective than exercise for losing weight. It's not hard to just change your portions a little bit and cut down on snacks.

Go to Johnstonefitness.com for some good dieting tips. Seriously it is one of the most fitness savvy websites on the interwebs.

EDIT: Dieting and cardio are equally important. You're better off burning calories by doing exercise rather than by starving yourself. Find the right combination of diet and exercise and you'll be on the right track. Hey Saturos, I myself am getting serious about getting ripped, so if you want a challenge buddy or something let me know.

I can roll twenty miles in a day.

'tomorrow'

Gtfo and do some excercise, it's easy to say you will 'tomorrow'.

do alot of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), basically sprinting short distances

alot more effective than long distance jogs

This depends on your goals. You'll burn a lot of sugar if you sprint, but you won't lose a lot of fat. The key to losing fat is to keep your heart rate up long enough so you burn all your sugars, then your body begins to burn fat for energy.

This usually takes about 15 minutes before your body decides to burn fat.

Sprinting short distances will definitely improve burst speed, but won't do a damn thing for endurance or weight loss. Unless you sprint for more than 15 minutes, but who can do that?

'tomorrow' was yesterday actually. :p I know what you mean though. It's easy to get consumed by procrastination tactics.

I started yesterday too and took a brisk but effective power-walk of about a mile like I said.

It felt so good too. I'd go again today if the weather here didn't suck already. I'm trying to keep my goal of at least threes times a week to start with, then gradually increasing duration, distance, and frequency the next week. That's how I did it last time.

That's basically what I do! I power-walk when catching my breath, (never slow-down or stop) then jog for about 100 yards or so before reverting back to power-walking.

You walked a mile? What kind of pathetic excercise regime is that? I walk a mile every day to town and think nothing of it and then go to the gym in the evening 4 times a week.

pffff that's nothing. I battle a grizley bear every morning for my steak breakfast and then go shovel iron blocks into the back of a truck for 15 hours a day.

I wouldn't be so harsh, it's a start for day #1. It's not like he can do a 5:30 mile, 150 pushups in a single set, 10 miles in a day or anything like that. I would recommend that he sets his goals closer to 3 or more miles to start, but it's nothing to be insulting over. He's not bragging, just trying to turn around his health.

If you're gonna go, go all out. Seriously dude, go till your lungs get sore. Go till you can no longer pee standing up. For the love of God, if you're gonna do something this big, hold nothing back. Be the best God damn fitness person to ever step on the stage.

12 miles is my personal record. :p But that was 40 lbs. ago. I've gotten weak since then.

I'm 205lbs., 5.6 1/2, and currently have a body fat percentage of %16.

Plus, how about you try walking in the wilderness trails of the Southern U.S.?
There are alot of shotgun toting, territorial crazies out here you know.:p
There's additional challenges when trucking through woods out here too.
Creeks, climbing, etc. It makes up for the lost additional distances.

The nearest city I can get a gym membership is about 20-25 miles away. Also where my uni is.
I don't have time to beat the traffic to squeeze in a few hours at a gym during class hours either.
I'm thinking about investing in a BowFlex though. With some help from my father cuz he wants one too.

When I was biking, I also had a gym membership, but cancelled it to pay for other shit.
Then I went to trade school in Mississippi and started stuffing my face with delectible shrimp gumbo and rice Jambalaya.
After which, I transferred due to Katrina to Jacksonville FL, and started eating (and drinking. Beer puts on the lbs. too) out quite often at a popular Japanese Habachi with some friends.
Well, now you see why I gained weight. :(

Here's me during that three year period of indulgence:

You should get some kind of cardio video for bad-weather days (or everyday, that's what I'm doing).

maintain a regular schedule, keep it sustained and realistic and gradually build it from there.

Good luck and stick to it

If you push the human body too much, train too much too fast, your body will break you.

And then you'll wake up 48 hours later feeling sore as hell.

Dude you sound like you're making good progress. Do yourself a favor and take weekly pictures to see if you're making progress. Cause at the end of the day it only matters if you look how you want to look.

Exercising isn't always about looking good. It's about feeling good, having greater strength, and being healthy.

Amen brother. I started getting back into it after a 3-week hiatus and I feels grrrrrrrat. Instead of following a set program, I go into the gym and do what feels right. For example, one day I'll do heavy movements and the next day I'll focus on explosive movements. It adds so much variety and keeps things interesting. Also I'm gonna start taking goof balls (60 mg ephedrine, 300 mg caffeine, and 200 mg caffeine) which supposedly make you a crazy man in the gym and make you burn body fat at a synergistic rate. I'm waiting on the shipment, but I've never been more excited about taking supplements.

Good progress?

He walked a mile, once.
