Ok well I'm one month into school and am already pissed off because I just failed the first Chemistry test and Algebra 2 test. Does anyone here have any experiences of starting off school bad and what do you usually do. I have no clue but might get a tutor for Algebra 2.

If you're already failing tests by the first month, I would strongly consider that you re-examine your study habits. I find it to be much easier to study for hard tests with a group of friends (assuming y'all don't goof off :) ). And yes, if you're having issues with the material, find a buddy or a tutor to help you. You can also talk to your professor - most tend to be at least willing to help out if a student is struggling (unless he's a doucher) .

Thanks for the advice, what do you think is a good way of studying for Algebra?

I think you also have some reading comprehension problems.

Try cracking the text book, son. Open the book, so that the knowledge may escape.

It's like when they open the ark in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Hang in there. From my experience, unis tend to be extra harsh in the beginning to weed out the quitters as soon as possible.

I've personally had and have seen many issues like this. It's definitely a huge warning bell especially if you're in your final year of HS. Consider dropping the really bad courses and taking them in nightschool or summer so you can focus on others and dramatically change your study habbits. Usually the first test of a course is supposed to be easy so you should address the concepts you don't get because the rest of it only builds up on these concepts especially in Linear Algebra and Chemistry.

I got ****ed by alg 2 w/analysis too. Though it was 99% the shitty fat fu*k teacher's fault. Bitch retired the next ****ing year (why the **** not before?!). To prove it I was ****in fine, I did well in precal and calc. Though its now that in my Discrete Structures (math) class that the teacher states on the first day that alg 2 is about what we should know. I think I'll be alright. (I'm sure everyone else took alg 2 about 3-6 yrs ago too).

Well I'm currently stuck on chapter 2 which graphing because the slope formula just got complicated and I am extremely confused :(.

I never did algebro, but don't text books have answers in the back these days?!

I'm quite loving this year so far.

I just failed a calculus quiz /:

We have one black guy in our class,

It's probably worth mentioning he's black.

Basically, pay attention in class, son. Mathematics might not be your thing, of course. It sure wasn't mine, but by paying attention I did semi-okay.

Rockin' straight A's all across the board. Alg 2 Hon is probably the easiest class, but I've always caught onto it fairly well. The only advice I can give is to pay attention, take notes, and do the work. All you need to do is pick up the concepts and only study the tricky questions, as those will be the ones on the test. You need to be able to reiterate the methods that the professor used to solve it for the class.

Also, what part of chemistry are you on? Right now we're studying matter and its properties, just took quiz on the first 60 elements :p

EDIT: You want sucker advice? Cheat.

Don't listen to him ^, all overachievers give advice that isn't applicable to suckers like us.

THIS THREAD ISN'T ABOUT YOU, OKAY, IT'S ABOUT HIM AND HIS PROBLEMS.

It's about giving him advice!

And my advice was the best advice.

The arrogance of some people.

This is funny because I edited out a segment of my original post saying that I wasn't meaning to brag because we all know I have the ego the size of a mouse, and then I said the size of my dick lololrite guys, right? >:l

Cheating is flunking advice, well if u suck at that too.

11th grade, Junior year.
It's odd because I always believe I understand the concepts but when it comes to the tests, I have no clue as to why I fail to apply them right. Tests aren't my thing.

When I'm studying algebra I just do as many problems from the book as I can. Doing problems is the best way to learn formulae I think; the more you use it, the easier it is to remember and understand. Are there solved problems in your textbook? Look at those as well.

Do you go through your tests after ?. If i ever did poorly on a test in high school i'd scrunch it up and throw it away, that's a REALLY bad thing to do.

I'm doing all of that in 10th grade.

... Yeah, I'm just gonna get out of the the thread now.

Oh man, I started school off bad... And finished it horrible. I think one of my last GPAs was a 0.7

Don't worry, you'll be fine :D

I started out with good marks then crapped out before I graduated.

I still ended up in Uni lol!

Starting of school good!

Since I don't have a job, I finally have something to do again.

I'm in my second year of IB, and will be applying for U after this year.

My predicted grades are pretty much set in stone, and these are the grades I'll send off to unis. Hopefully, I'll get a good offer.

Try your best in math and science. These subjects reflect a person's intellect, and are the subjects you want to show off to your teachers and universities.

Don't worry, I too don't always get off the right foot when I start school, but the important thing is landing on the right foot before you finish school

i usually start off my semesters pretty lazy. the professors need to announce an exam for next week to get me into "oh shit" mode.

As a rule I always started my first trimester out horribly, aced the second and put minimal effort in the third to even things out.

Don't sweat it, I just started school a week ago and I feel like a moron. The math teacher expects us to remember all of what we had learned the previous school year and more. Naturally I don't. I guess you just have to "live-in" the whole school thing to get yeself going again.

I wish they had told me, when I did A-levels, that if I got 3 A's most unis would have given me between £1000 and £3000 in bursaries.

Now that's an incentive.
