STEAM buyers: How do I play Offline?

I think that if you buy HL2 via internet, you need to be online all the time. I allready played HL2, but allways online. How do I play offline? Delete this thread if its useless (and it probably is)

If you launch steam without being connected to the internet, it should give you the option to play Offline or Retry. Click 'Offline'.

...or right click on your network icon in the system bar (where your clock is!) and click on disable.

Well, it doesnt really matter if you do or don't. All it does is validate HL 2 and then you play offline...simple.

Actually I think it does. If you start Steam while your interweb connection is running it won't give you the option to run off line. You need to start it with your connection down.

Seems like a weak way for Valve to do this. There should be an option "connect to Internet" or some such thing.
