Steam Client Release Delayed

I suspect you're thinking of "Disk Operating System" rather then "Denial Of Service".

DOS attacks send **large** amounts of information requests at a target. So many that the target's CPU/bandwidth is used up and stops responding to all requests including legitimate requests. DOS attacks are usually DDOS attacks - that is, Distributed DOS--which means that many different computers are used to attack the target. This is often done with "hacked" (compromised) computers - the owners of which don't have any idea that they're part of a DDOS attack.

DoS= Denial of Service. Many people make their computer want something from only one computer, so one computer (server) has to answer to thousands of others and because it can't handle al these requests it crashes ---> DoS=Denial of Service!!!

No, that is teh work of 20,000 10 year olds posting threads like "WtFZUS!!!? StREAM! DLAYED!@?!!?!?!?!?!11"

I dont see why some of you are "not trusting" Valve anymore. Just because some net coding took a little longer than expected. Things happen. Its not like they said "Steam will come out on the 10th, and if it doesn't well give you all cold hard cash"

Just because somthing is a day late dosnt mean you can't trust Valve.

And you mean to tell me that if you were in a dark ally with Gabe you would fear for your safety?

And any way....I wouldn't be saying anything to get Valve pissed.....they are making the greatest game in the world. And are giving us the privilage to own it.

If this isn't directed at me disregard this post. :)

As i've said before - it's not that they delayed, it's that they didn't tell us until after the deadline.

If i was in a dark ally with Gabe i think i'd be too suprised to think about my safty. :p

They maybe didn't know until after the deadline.

Don't forget that Lombardi had to type up that post and send it out, and we got it 15 minutes after the deadline.

Possibly, but I find it hard to believe that they didn't know it was gonna take longer than expected right up until when they posted the news (taking into account the delay in posting).

all the rumors are so funny, it's not even funny.

like the "dos attack", and some people saying cs 1.6 final would be released today with steam.
and also that you don't have to download a new installer, if you have the beta it would update automatically.

well let me just set everything in place then.
All of the above are false.
as far as i know, the steam page being slow was a reaction of thousands of users simultaneously refreshing it ever second.

cs 1.6 will be released in two weeks, when wonid goes down(seems logical enough).

and finally, YES, you do need to download a new installer.
if you look on steampowered.com, search for topics made by eric johnson, THEN come back here and say all that shit you say.

well on the get steam now page it says you dont need to download a new installer.

valve should probably change that if its false.

I bet they knew...but hey....I bet they were buisy working on Steam.

Just another example of clueless morons

Steam is a free program that can be downloaded by anybody who wishes. For those worrying that just because Steam was delayed (One day) that Half-Life 2 will be delayed. Get a CLUE

There is a HUGE difference in the release of Steam & The Release of Half-Life 2

Sheesh
