Steam Community Now Available!

Same Here! Doesn't work on Firefox or internet explorer. WTF.

;(
If you have someone in your friends list who already has joined the HL2.net group on steam community you can view his profile through Steam and click on the link and join.

Yah I know. I realize it's a beta, but you would think they would have kept this implemented somehow before releasing the beta. I dunno, I'm just annoyed. I think I'll just uninstall the beta until this is fixed in a future release.

Works fine in every game I've tried.

Hey, good stuff. First time I check the front page in weeks (not to mention use Steam), and I get this. Yay me! :p

Managed to nab http://steamcommunity.com/id/badhat too. Uhh... add me, I guess. I'm not sure how often I'll use this since I can't play with too many of you without massive amounts of lag, but I'll check out the chat once I get it working.

yeah i've been playing games in windowed mode... so the messages in game thing hasent bothered me at all.

theres still some problems with the whole thing.... but nothing really making steam useless. i like.

You can play me, my New Zealand brother!!!

I'm coming late to the party.

I got the friends/community stuff to work in-game. woot
Not sure what was wrong exactly... But now I don't have to alt-tab out.

aaaaawww... tell me how you did it. I uninstalled coz it was annoying me. Maybe I should try a reinstall.

I'm apparenltly not allowed to join. This would be cool, if it were not so freaking confusing. And I wish if someone that was your friend was playing HL2 you could jump in for co-op...

Are they gonna have community/clan/mod groups or profile pages as well?
Don't quote me on this, but I think they're only going to have profiles. Some kind of mod group/page would have been ace.
I'd be surprised if they don't eventually add support for it. If they did they could eventually put the squeeze on the (Source) mod support ModDB provides (free profiles, free galleries, free download hosting, free news coverage) and bring their modding community back under their wing. On the other hand perhaps their business partners would object to heavy advertising and support for free mods that could compete with their commercial products.
Thank you Valve! :)

Well I need to register on Steam Forums to post feedback. I would have thought some sort of integration of Steam_IDs and forum account names would have been pretty obvious (Natural Selection does something similar to this, for example). Apparently not.

Annoying they haven't given you the option of changing a public group to a private group or vice versa.

Also I wonder what anti-spambot measures they have in place to stop random profiles popping up with:
sex free sex hardcore **** schooolgirl fetish ******* (and you get the picture)
and a link to a sex site

[Edit] And call me cynical but how much do you wanna bet that one of the BIG changes to come will be the introduction of adverts. How much do you think Valve will charge for ad-free community pages and chatrooms? This already seems a lot bloated than Steam was before, but right now I'm happy with it because it's providing things I actually want and appreciate. Once the ads come in I'm gonna be looking back whistfully at IRC and kicking myself for getting sucked in.

I'm praying Valve don't go down the advertising route with this. I really am.

Well - we could make the group Private and invite only...

And most of the Staff are getting admin, just need one of them to grant it to the rest of us.

Hold on, just realised I didn't have the beta running. Duh *kicks self*

EDIT: Wait its still not working. Jesus.

What the hell? I tried to upload an avatar in Steam community ID thingy and it says that it isn't a JPG or a PNG, wtf? That's impossible, I even used this avatar right here. I even tried a smilie for pete's sake!

Your avatar here is a GIF file - not at JPG or PNG.. and smilies are also often GIF files.

Open your avatar picture in an editor and save it as JPG or PNG instead.

We should have a thread where everybody posts their SteamID.

I?m trying to set up a big steam community group for Dutch and Flemish people. It?s always nice to stay in contact with people with the same language. Any Dutch or Flemish people on halflife2.net interested in joining?
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/stoom

Oh and add me to the halflife2.net group ;) http://steamcommunity.com/id/Betelgeuze
Ah, I've just done the same thing for Dutch speaking people :p

I'm using http://steamcommunity.com/groups/9lives, because it's linked to an already existing gaming community.

Are you sure 9lives agrees with that? Well, my group is targeted for non-9lives members too :p ;)

Insano, then maybe you're the one to ask why all the css servers suck bigtime lately? They lag like hell, it's terrible.

I'll ask around, but I'm the moderator for the HL2 section. The CS section has its own moderators.

The CS servers normally have great pings.

How do you join and get into the chatroom? I've clicked on the join button but it just refreshes the page. Clicking on go into the chatroom does nothing either.

YOu've jioned i guess, cause it did that to me and I'm in. As for chatroom, I had to be invited in, and now I can't get in cause I exited. D:

Have you actually installed the beta? Steam Options - change - etc

Just created a new playtest event for our mod's dev team. You can set the game (no mod support atm, sadly, only games and game videos), the server, the server password, the date and the time! With any luck it will automatically display the correct time for all members according to what timezone they have Steam set to. [Edit] Just confirmed that this does indeed work for users from multiple timezones.

This shit is the MAD NOTES!

Wait, once you've jioned, go on friends and scroll down. @ the botton if it says "+ Halflife2.net public group" and then a weird arrow your in buisness. Click on this wierd arrow and you can jion chat.

The profiles suck, big images and nothing really useful, I was expecting something closer to Xfire but a bit more formal and user friendly.

I think it's nice, all-in-all, but the voice chatting is rather buggy and after a couple hours the community overlay (in games) broke on me. Crashes whenever I try to start something. :|

Its a beta, you can't expect it not to be beta, just go back to the current client.

Hold on, just realised I didn't have the beta running. Duh *kicks self*

EDIT: Wait its still not working. Jesus.

If you are trying to join thru firefox or IE, you have to log in to the web page also.

I'll probably post this on the steampowered forums too but does anyone know how to make a private group you created be public?
The description when making the group said that you could do that but not make a public group private (reverse).
edit:I just deleted the group and made it again as public.
aaaaawww... tell me how you did it. I uninstalled coz it was annoying me. Maybe I should try a reinstall.
I was trying Kaspersky anti virus at the time. I uninstalled it. Restarted. Steam community/friends then worked in-game. Whether it was the AV or the restart I'm not sure. Previously I had tried dropping from beta and joining again but that didn't seem to do anything.

Just booted it up but, cant upload an avatar, and cant join the chat rooms, and I doubt its better than xfire, since xfire shows all games you play, steam just shows ones hosted by steam.
