Steam Community screens and date

They shut down the beta command, so it will revert back to the regular Steam version we already have.

Thanks alot!
This is to take some getting use to. When I go home tomorrow, I shall use it right away.

They disabled the command, so you probably won't be using it unless they release the official beta.

ZOMG voice chat with friends? If this will work with BF2, I see massive fun on the way.

I wonder if we can invite numerous people to it, like a Vent server or something.

holy shit you can add non steam games to steam D:
It was confirmed that non-steam games can be added by the ShodownLAN pics and an e-mail that I got from Gabe.

You can most likely. They have chat rooms in the program, why not VOIP too? The orange bar from the Valve server is up quite a bit and I say it really is coming out today! :)

Hopefully! oh boy, this would rule. I'm still wondering what they are doing about the whole "adding games to Steam" feature. Would be pretty..useless if it was just a shortcut to another game. Not worth it. If they made it to where you didn't need to use the CD anymore, and just added "GCF"s or something....I don't know. I can't wait for it to be released so I can see how it works!

it creates a shortcut to the game in the steam game menu, but they say it will integrate with your steam community homepage so you'll see stats and other options of the game you've added in your Steam homepage.

That will be ok, I guess. I'm also assuming if you have the game added to the list, you can join friends playing that same game?

Will the "Join when first free slot is available" option be there, hopefully? That way you don't have to sit and wait forever for games like BF2 or something lol.

Think of this feature as xfire 2.0. I'm thinking in the final version, Steam will automatically scan for new games you have installed and add them automatically. Also auto-update games too just like xfire. Valve may release data on who has what installed, and it will be valuable to companies to see what games consumers are playing and how long they are playing the games. You can set up a clan and make a special section for it in Steam. View who is online and setup clan news, etc. You can add dates and times on matches such as "CS match against so-so on May 26th at 5:00PM EST." It will probably give you the address too and just double-click on it and you will be sent to the server. It's basically xfire only it does more and is better. Google this Pitz to find out more.

Hmm, I was hoping it would work alot like Steam does already, with the server browser, friends list, etc...but I guess this will be OK. Xfire has been slipping lately. Half the time, the "chat" shortcut doesn't work for what I use... *Shift + \* And it takes them so long to bring out the patch for new games, like for ETQW it was a good few weeks before they brought out the feature.

Well that's what I'm saying lol and it will still do that only better. Xfire disconects all the time and has to be updated to support new games. Steam though is reliable, fast, doesn't need to be updated to support new games, etc. The Valve server content bar is completely full. They are certainly uploading it now.

Hopefully they get it out by end of the week then, or even today! :)

According to Hool, he has it...a new line at the end is added though.
I don't know, I'm happy with waiting.

PHP:
steam.exe -clientbeta Cr0wbarF@ce-324Samophlange_ISmell3lk -beta Cr0wbarF@ce-324Samophlange_ISmell3lk
Just add that with a space following your target line command on Steam. Should read:
PHP:
"C:\Program Files\Steam\steam.exe" steam.exe -clientbeta Cr0wbarF@ce-324Samophlange_ISmell3lk -beta Cr0wbarF@ce-324Samophlange_ISmell3lk
Windows fade in and out now, can add a custom name, avatar, new Steam community tab, etc.

NICE downloading it NOW! I hope we arnt pissing Valve off downloading this...

They obviously put effort into taking it away from us, and the fact they didn't let us beta test it *yet?*....perhaps this will just make them delay the whole thing? What can you guys be getting out of this other than a free look *it's what screenshots do!*

That was done earlier this morning, I was playing with some of it when it wasn't turned off.

This is a new one that came out 20min ago. It does indeed work and people are already adding non-Steam games to their account. The stat pages or anything like that gives you a 404 error. It's just like xfire including the pop-up message window at the bottom, right-hand corner of the screen.

Adding that did nothing for me.

Awesome.

So either today or tomorrow since it's highly doubtful they would release on a Sat.

I would think today (Thursday) since if there is problems, they have tomorrow to fix it and make sure it's working properly for the weekend.

We just got to see Greg Coomers Games list.

He likes GROGG.

And for some reason has GM9 installed. D:
