Argh! Yesterday I wanted to start preloading CS:S, so I went to the folder where it is installed, and Steam.exe wasn't there. I thought maybe someone had deleted it by accident. It had been a long time since i had used it. So I reinstalled it, then preloaded the beta. Today I decided to go on Steam. So I started my computer up, and clicked on the icon, but it couldn't find Steam.exe. I looked in the folder and it had disappeared again. Now, I am pretty sure no one delete it. So what happened. I looked in my recycle bin, and these are the exe files in it from my steam folder:

Steam.exe
Steam.exe (one of them is probably from the uninstall)
Steamnew.exe
Steamtmp.exe

But none of them are in that folder anymore. Why is Steam deleting itself? What should I do?

I just found there are some other files from the root directory that have deleted themselves, such as dbg.dll, steam.dll, Steam_UI.dll when comparing it with the installation on my slower computer, which has a working version of steam.

That happened to me too, the best way is to just reinstall Steam, i haven't had any problems with Steam.exe and those files deleting themselves after that ;)
