The long awaited and long hinted at Steam for Linux is now being beta tested. The closed beta has a total of 1000 slots and can be entered by taking the survey here. The only requirements are to have a Steam account and Ubuntu 12.04 and up.
It's pretty easy at this point to say that Valve games will be Linux compatible, as Left 4 Dead 2 has been running on Ubuntu for some time now. The current available games are Portal, Team Fortress 2 and Serious Sam 3. Currently they're asking for "experienced Linux users only" so those of who had Mint installed for you and only browse Facebook on Firefox, it'd be better not to apply.
