[br]Valve's Steam client will be debuting on the Mac tomorrow May 12th, with Torchlight and Portal among other initial titles [br]

On subsequent Wednesdays, additional collections of Mac titles will become available, each designed to highlight specific functionalities of Steam on the Mac.[br]

The first collection of Mac titles will demonstrate "Steam Play," which allows customers to purchase a game once and play it on all Steam supported platforms. Gamers who have previously purchased games on Steam will find them available in their account on the Mac as they are released.[br]

Portal, in addition to supporting Steam Play, will be the first of Valve's Source engine based games available on the Mac. Native OS/X support for the Source engine is also available immediately to licensees for use in their games.[br]

Valve will also make its Steamworks suite of publishing and development tools available on the Mac platform. These include product key authentication, copy protection, auto-updating, social networking, matchmaking, anti-cheat technology, and more. The features and services available in Steamworks are offered free of charge and may be used for both electronic and tangible versions of games.

i'm not very up to speed with steam as i only ever used it on my old windows when hl2 was released, so forgive my ignorance/stupidity here: can i purchase the orange box tomorrow and play portal from it, and at later dates, the other games in the box? i don't really want to buy portal on it's own, but i'm well up for getting the orange box

Yes, purchase the Orange Box then just select which games you want to download. The rest will be available for future download.

Yes you can. You will find the other games available in your account on the Mac as they are released.

EDIT: Beaten by Escaep

cheers guys, will be buying the orange box tomorrow then.

hopefully half-life 2 and the episodes will be available soon. also looking forward to sinking my teeth into tf2 and seeing what all the fuss is about!

When... 'cause I just got up and its not available for download on the steam site. Maybe it will be ready when I get back from my Microeconomics Final.

Ewww why why why would you take microeconomics instead of macroeconomics that's gross

Anyway, like always, it's Valve. It might not even be up for download until 8pm EST, but it'll turn up. Eventually.

Well I did take Macroeconomics first and then I did Microeconomics.

hmmmm.... well I hope its soon.

twitter/google is exploding with a leaked .dmg file, but it says authorization required to use. i think beta uses can log in, so luck so far.

i'm quite happy to wait for the official announcement either way.
