Remember those days when Steam gave us the ability to talk with friends with Valve’s own instant messenger program? Well, you can now relive those glorious days! Valve is letting everyone in on a little secret, you can try out the beta of their new Steam Friends Network by adding this line to your Steam.exe launch properties:[br]-clientbeta steam3friends -beta steam3friends[br]

[br]This isn’t the final version, hence the “beta” part. Varsity has had the chance to interview John Cook, the brains behind Friends 3.0, about what is different and what is to come of Friends. Also, as I’ve stated at least 50 times, please note this is a beta so Valve would appreciate all the help in ironing out the bugs in this build so that the official release is squeaky clean. You can submit some bugs over at Valve’s Developer Wiki if you find any.[br]Keep your friends close!

Yay, hopefully this will help VALVe get it out of beta quicker with everyone testing/stressing it out.

Friends is boring. :| Its the same stupid thing as it was before.

Fine! You keep control of the 3 "friends" down in Miami. I control the rest of the world. :D

Where exactly do I add the line -clientbeta steam3friends -beta steam3friends

Just make a shortcut to Steam and add it to the command line in properties.

Can we be friends?

Tell us what you do exactly. Are you copying the command line to the end of the Target field?

You have to add the parameters OUTSIDE of the quotation mark.

I actually tried that too... but I just get a slightly moddified error message ;(
> error message <

K, nvm. I sorted it. I had to add a third (???) quotation mark at the end...

Because Valve employees are probably instructed to *not* talk about TF2 anyway. :S
