Valve have announced plans to deliver free games to all owners of ATI Radeon graphics cards may receive a free copy of Half-Life? 2: Lost Coast and Half-Life 2: Deathmatch via Steam. Steam will automatically confirm the presence of ATI Radeon(tm) hardware and then enable immediate access to full versions of the games free of charge. Click here ATI owners for free things Oh and...

And, as recently announced by AMD, customers who purchase the new ATI Radeon(tm) HD 2900 XT will also receive, upon release via Steam, the highly anticipated trio of new games coming from Valve: Team Fortress? 2, Portal(tm), and Half-Life 2: Episode Two.
How lovely!

I think we can see that as a confirmation that the Black Box is still available on Steam.

How could you pick 2 of the 3 games though? :naughty: Valve is truly nuts now. The games are now dirt cheap. Hey look, that new Tomb Raider demo is out on Steam! *Eh didn't like the game too much.

Hmm nice, just added Half-Life 2: Deathmatch to my CS:S account. Was surprisingly easy to do.

I do occasionally lie, making people happy then shattering dreams. (but as seen above, not today!)

I think this is pretty much an attempt to get more users playing deathmatch, and some publicity for ATI too.

Kind of surprised that these 'games' hadn't been free before now really... Lost Coast is shorter than the actual HL2 demo :p

I wonder if I can play lets say Zombie Master with only DM, I mean, I would be able to a make a Zombie Master server with an account that only has DM.

Tbh, this is the only thing about VALVe that bothers me. The way they're allying themselves with ATi is just plain lame (even if I do have an ATi card) :/

This is great...is what i would say if i didn't already own all these games.

hey, I am a nvidia user too, mut my laptop has ATI Radeon, so there

Too bad HL2DM blows hard.

/equip +2 Flame Retardant Coat.

OK, let's dig up my old Radeon 9550. Oh wait, I already have both games. :p

This is retarded. In a way.

Very generous though. But, not to Nvidia people

Don't think about it too much, it isn't a big deal. ATI probably just paid them for some publicity. I'm a nvidia user, by the way.

Hahaha...what, then--are you a CS'er?

I love HL2DM, nothing compared to hitting someone in the head with a toilet and then watching it shatter for the first time--it was awe inspiring. :)

I play CS, yeah. Doesn't have much to do with it. I like the g-gun in HL2DM as it adds something new to the DM-type game. I just can't enjoy it, though.

What do Nvidia users think about this?

Meh, like i've never had to sit through their cutscenes in an attempt to play a simple game of UT2004.

I'm actually quite impressed with this move. They weren't making any money off these games anyway, so why not give them away and attract more customers. I don't see this swaying buyers to purchase an ATI card, but i see Valve giving Half-Life 2 some nice attention.

Valve have been ATI fans since back when the Radeon 9800 was plugged in the E3 2003 videos as being perfect for the game. It probably worked back then too. I mean, I have a 9800Pro, and the steam statistics were once dominated by that card and the 9600... Can't say that nvidia devotees are likely to feel too gutted over this announcement though (if you care that much, just steal a Radeon out of friend's computer for an afternoon or something) :p

Man, if only people didn't actually have those games

Hang on a minute... what would happen if someone without an ATI card logs into steam on a friends computer who has got one?

this kinda blows since i use nvdida ... but o well its only lost coast and dm ... the 2 most worthless valve games ever (besides ricochet of course). + i already have them

So this isn't really news?

Then why is it in the "News and Site announcements" page.

Well, I'm not complaining. This is more oriented to new customers, not old veterans like the denizens of this place. ;)

woot I think my bro can pick up HL2: DM now. I think he has an ATI card.
Good incentive to get someone introduced to Steam! I would think this deal would help Valve a lot more than ATI. I doubt anyone would buy an ATI card over a Nvidia so they could pick up HL2:Lost Cost... hehe

I usually end up alternating what brand of card I own since I buy what is best atm. This PC has an ATI and my older machine has a Nvidia. So it wouldn't have mattered if it required Nvida or ATI for me. I bet there are more in the same boat. /shrug

i was thinking the same thing. what if a user changed his card to nvidia. would that remove the free games?

DEATHMATCH & LOST COAST ARE FREE ANYWAY!!

What's all the bloody fuss about?!
