Valve have updated the Steam Hardware Survey with new results and fancy charts.[br]
Click here to see the new Survey.

Looks pretty awesome! Good representation of data as well!

Nearly 50% of people have a DX10 GPU, but less than half of them can acctully use DX10, genius marketing.

Well, I got ATI 3650 and I bought that card just to play L4D with pretty decent graphics. Point is that it's pretty hard to buy a good DX9 card now. What is more DX10 cards are usually less expensive than DX9 cards.

Dolts out there are still believing the Vista scare. You don't think things have been improved since release?

On another note, this isn't popping up for me. The last time the survey went up, it wouldn't upload my results which happened to many people. So like many others, we said to opt out of the surveys. I guess that was permanent. :x

Ignorance, can't forget ignorance.
And what the hell, 87% using 4x MSAA?

Money being one.

Edit: and ethics.

You shouldn't have edited. Money is a valid reason why people haven't adopted Vista. Ethics is not. The idea that buying Microsoft (or Micro$oft as you probably refer to them) products is in some way unethical is Slashdot level ignorance. I've been using Vista for a year now as both a developer and a gamer and I have found it to be even more stable than XP. Yes, I've run into a couple of compatibility problems with software the isn't supported from companies that don't exist anymore, but I don't mind since I've found alternatives. For the most part, everything runs flawlessly including older games.

Microsoft are no more of an evil corporation than Google. Microsoft are not out to piss off their consumer base. Microsoft are not out to drink your milkshake.

Get over it.

I don't support Vista as vehemently as the above user, but I have been using it over a year now and it's solid as a rock for me. No compatibility issues, it's really quick and I've actually adapted to prefer it over XP now. Service Pack 1 had truly solidified the OS, and you are living in a year behind if you believe Vista is still in beta.

Great improvement to the hardware stats, looks much nicer...who doesn't like pie charts!? Also Digi...it's spelt COLOURFUL, honestly you and your American English. *shakes fist*

My interpretation of the edit was that, if ethics aren't an issue, you can install Vista without money.

Reading through it again, I guess it could be interpreted that way too. I guess I've been hanging around too many "Microsoft is the root of all evil" forums.

Colored graphs holy shit, Valve remains on the forefront of computer technology.

Hey vegeta, you should play some of their games. They'll blow you away!

Just built my new rig less than a week ago. So it probably won't be on this survey.

Mark me down for pro-Vista. I started it up with low expectations, but now I love it. Very easy to get used to even if you spent the last 5-6 years on XP. Everything is so clean and organized.

If you are going for a new system like Diesel_Power, then you should get Vista. I'm not saying just switching to Vista for the hell of it. But avoiding it by basing it on just what you hear is bad. Anywho if you did not get the survey, a steampowered user brought it up:
Does steam still ask for hardware uploads because ive never had the request although funny enough i get the request on my older machine but not the new one
JasonM on the Steam forums:
We have randomly divided the Steam user population up into different months. This means that a given user will only get nagged to participate once a year, but we still get a nice large sample size each month.

Also if you upgrade your PC:
We don't currently detect configuration changes in order to re-run the survey, but you yourself can always view your system configuration in Steam via Help | System Information. This will re-run the survey stats gathering code on your system so you can see your stats, but Steam doesn't upload the data to us at that point.

Our goal is to always get a clear picture of the Steam user population as a whole so that we can make good choices about min-specs and general technology investments in our games. Because of that, we don't want to have the data biased by frequent hardware upgraders or the enthusiast crowd that would want to upload their system stats more often than the more casual computer user.

So basically once you install Steam, you automatically upload the data to Steam and when the time comes, it uploads it to their network. Previously they gave you an option.

What the hell? 1024 x 768 is still the most common res :\

Same here.

Edit: oic, kinda weird that they do it automatically now after talking about the virtues of asking the user first.

IIRC you may delete a registry key responsible for survey and it will re-appear.

You'll notice I did not put "is a second" on my edit. Money and ethics is one whole reason for not getting vista. I can imagine a lot of people having pirated Vista, something which one wouldn't do with morals and the like.

...

Get over it.

The rest isn't worth reading because you were wrong.

Well that sucks. I guess Valve won't be supporting DX10 anytime soon.

What what? That isn't what your quotes say.
