I dont know if everyone experiences this but when I go to click install on a program, it says "this page can not be loaded" etc. This annoys me very much because it's pretty much every game that does this to me. My internet connection is pretty fast. (DSL). I tried doing this on my friends computer and it does the same thing. Does anyone else have this problem and what do you do to be able to install a game when it comes up as that?

Thanks

I'm not really that new. I just don't post much but instead of saying "wrong sub forum", you could have answered my question. This isn't really the wrong forum. It's a general post anything off topic. It's not about Half Life so.. It could either go in Help wanted or this one. I chose this one. If it needs to be moved, then move it.

Can someone tell me why Steam is doing this?

I'm trying to install a demo of LOST Planet but it comes up as "Can not Display Page" etc.

True, it was rude, but it was still true.

*Magic Moving Power of Moving!*

But sorry, I can't help you with your problem.

I don't think it was rude but thanks for moving it to Half Life 2 which my question has nothing to do with... lol

Have you set the Steam connection speed correctly?

try restarting steam or refreshing the page in steam OR download it from filefront. Steam isnt the only way to get games.

I'm guessing he's talking about the Lost Planet demo :p

Could you provide a screenshot on what you are clicking on? Is it in the Steam browser window or in the Game list?

nvm i thought steam had a refresh button. if you cant get it from steam then get it from filefront.

Here's a screen shot.

It's small but I circled it in red. Hopefully you can see it.

When I click on it, this is what happens. It happens with any game when I go to click on install.

I tried refreshing and reloading but that doesn't work.

If all of Steam's pages work before that, it's probably not an internet connection issue. You're requesting a steam:// link when you hit that button. I assume your browser doesn't know how to handle that. Are you running Vista? IE7? Firefox? Tell me with version numbers.

I have firefox. Version 1.5.0.11

It should ask you if you have Steam installed, simply click yes.

Sorry if it fails.
I've tried that on both Explorer and Firefox. For some reason, it doesn't know how to open that and it doesn't work.

JUST DOWNLOAD FROM FILEFRONT FOR THE LAST TIME!!!
geez i said this like 3 times.......you never listen.

He can't open any Steam pages. You can't download Episode Two over Filefront.

The solution: GET STEAM OR YOU ARE A PIRATE!!1

Whether I use Filefront to download the "DEMO" of the game still doesn't fix my problem with STEAM. The point is I can not rely on FILEFRONT to buy the games I want off of steam. I use steam to buy and demo games. To play Half Life 2, Episode One and other games. I'm not going to just let the issue persist when I use the program a lot.

So sorry I didn't answer you. But I downloaded the two different versions of the LOST Planet from both the website and Filefront and they both don't want to work. They all say it fails to start because some DLL file was not found. I tried downloading that file and putting it in the directory in needs to be and it still doesn't work. Oh well I suppose. But I still would like to figure out why STEAM is doing this.

dx10 works only on vista
dx9 works on both

you need to update your directx to the latest version (april 2007)

When I right click on the "Page Cannot Be Displayed", this is the URL:

res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm#steam://install/6530

??

this kind of stuff happens a lot to me. Not exactly the same situation but close. Last time i couldnt run steam at all. Just reinstall ur whole OS. Worked for me.

I tried cleanly un-installing and re-installing and it does the same thing. I'm going to try and contact steam help. See if they can help me.
