Hi All,
I went down to CompUSA yesterday and purchased a copy of Half-Life GOTY edition ( my original HL was scratched to hell). When I got home, I immediately went online and downloaded steam, but when I try and get CS1.6, it says this cd-key has been registered with another account. The package from CompUSA was factory sealed. When I try and trouble shoot it through VU Games, they said they need a picture of the receipt along with a picture of the cd and key. Why the F*** would they need a picture of the receipt if I can give them a picture of the cd and the cd case. Also, do I need to purchase counterstrike now? Is there a link to somewhere I can download CS1.6 only w/o the steam crap.

Thanks

The reason all this CD-Key crap is happening with Steam is because VU Games screwed up the printing of CD-Keys, and ended up double-printing lots of keys. It's a horrible mess, but it's pretty much all VU's fault.

No, you don't need to buy CS, if you put in a HL cd-key and it's accepted it'll give you CS too.

Do you have your old CD-Key from you old version of HL still around? You could put that into Steam instead.

I tried entering my old cd-key but it didn't work. What really irritates me is that no one from Steam or VU Games has taken the time to answer my numerous emails. I’m sorry, but I have to rant and rave. I spent my hard earned money on a multiplayer game I can't even play online. If I would have known this would happen, I would have saved my money and just downloaded a warez copy, either way I couldn't play multiplayer, but I would have saved some money. I don't ever download games, but when the publisher or the developers don't give a sh*t about you, then I think twice. When I went the steam help page, they wanted me to send in a picture of the cd, the key, and the receipt. This I can do with exception of the receipt, I mean Jesus, I have the original cd and the original key, so why the F*CK do I need the receipt. Sorry for the bad attitude, but I am not a happy camper.

I just bought a brand-new copy of Star Wars Galaxies and tried to play it online, and the key was already registered. They told me to send in a scan of the receipt as well.

That should teach u guys to sae your reciepts. Ive had instances were some of my hardware in my comp blew and all i had to do was bring it in in ox w/all the stuff inside and the reciept, but nooooo i just had to throw it away. costed me an extra 300$.
