Steam is taking forever to connect to!

I bought my game and won't even get to play it for five minutes today, hell i haven't even got to see if it actually plays yet, i can't even look at the splash screen because of ****iing steam, I agree, whoever had the genius ****ing idea to connect to steam to play a single player game needs to be fired.

Hello Guys,
You really need to help me, I finally made it through the installation of HL2(FINALLY). It took a long time time to update the maps to my system. Now that i'm finally ready i'm getting a message that there is something wrong it says: 'Unable to authenticate original disc within time limit'. As you guys can all understand i'm really pissed. I finally madeit through the installation and now i'm into this nonsense.
PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks in advance

For F#%$K's SAKE! I took off from work earlier today. Played sick and now I can't even play?!?!?
AAAAARRRRRGGGHHH! $100 for the game. Over $100 in lost wages. Sitting inmy computer room with Cookies and coke all ready to play and all for naught.

Apparantly the Steam servers are to busy to process CD Keys but it will let ou play in the meantime. (according to Steam Error msg.)

keep trying. It may work on one attempt.
Grrrr now I'm stuck on "unlocking game files."

yeah i have just spoken to a friend and he had the same thing, he restartted HL2 for about 30 times and than finally it started, but thanks for the advice anyway
