Steam has come a long way, so much so it now provides 13 million people with 150 plus games to play both online and offline. Some more stats for you guys: Online gameplay via Steam averages over 7 billion player minutes per month. And, staying true to its roots of offering automatic updates for PC games and applications, Steam has served its growing audience a total of over 2,500 updates since its first release.
We've approached the development of Steam the same way we treat our online games; we release something we've tested, we internalize the feedback, and then we release new features and functionality based upon the feedback received," says Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "In Steam's case, we have millions of customers who are gamers and dozens of customers who are developers and publishers. In the past year, we've added over 100 new titles from third parties, grown to over 13 million active accounts, and introduced new features such as Guest Passes and Free Weekends. This growth has taught us a lot and inspired many additional features and services that we'll be releasing later this year.
For a little more to read see the full article here. Steam has stood the test of time.

that's quite a lot actually

I'll be curious to know what it is after the orange box comes out

Congratulations Steam! Keep up the good work.

I'd like to know the average amount of games accounts have, just to see.

As much as people would like to bitch about Steam I think its one of the best things to come out of Valve to the PC market. Go to any game store and you'll find that the PC shelf is nearly non-existent. Some important people in the game biz see PC games as a dying market but valve and steam IMO is the service that will keep PC gaming alive...for the time being at least. Go Valve. personally I haven't make too many purchases off of steam besides Robolitz and Dod:Src. Wonder what the sales are like for some of the pop cap games and mediocre racing sim titles:D

Here's to the future.

Wonder when we'll hear more about the Steam Community? That's the biggest new Steam feature I see on the horizon.

Same I've only bought from Steam DOD:S and Ep1.

I've purchased quite alot of things off of Steam...so I must say, it treats me right.

Steam has been good to me too. I registered my opposing force cd key, and got all the gold games at that time. I bought the silver package. I bought SIN Episodes and Red Orchestra. I look forward to buying EP2, TF2, Portal and of course Left4Dead also in the future.

Amazing. Congrats to Valve! Keep it up :)

18 Steam purchases, not including Valve stuff. Digital distribution all the way :)

i have yet to buy anything off of steam, the only game i have for it is hl2 and css. I'm kinda poor...

only about 3 million use it every month according to the stats on steampowered. In fact it hasn't risen that much over the past few years.

They don't track every single game with those stats, just mainly VALVe/Source powered games.

Aye, it's impressive.

I've got a truck-load of games on my account, but had to give it up recently since it's like crack - if you've got the money, it can be addictive. It's also a pity that Steam solidifies Windows as the gaming OS; if only Valve made a Linux (or even Mac) client. But hey, Valve aren't leaders in cross-platform. Never were. But that's not their job.

Congrats to Valve in any case.

I like Steam. Can you tell?

^Haha, very nice list...mine's much smaller but the same goes for me: Steam = Invaluable. It's just one of the greatest things to ever happen to PC game distribution--and PC gaming in general.

I hope other publishers/developers adopt (eventually...) and realize that this is truly the way to go.

I mean, look at iTunes! They rule the world b/c people want it done quickly and easily and both Apple and Valve do just that.

Congrats!

I bought episode 1 and psychonauts over steam. Quite handy.

The only thing that I've bought through Steam is Darwinia, but go Steam anyway!
