Steam pre-loading

this may have already been asked before, my apologies...

but will half life 2 start pre-loading only after you have purchased it, if that is the case, does anyone know when the option to buy it will become available?

Yes, you must buy it first from Steam to have it start pre-loading. I believe Gabe Newell said that on the 17th you'll have the option to begin the initial stage of pre-loading.

Just dont get too excited he's said it will be stuff like textures and the like that will be loading things that have been locked down and won't change .. it doesnt really help us get a proper release date.

That's a good point actually. Will people be able to "pre-order" it from Steam before it releases? Thus being able to preload it and not get stuck on release day downloading from choked overloaded servers?

Once it goes gold it'll probably be available for purchase on steam....or it may be available for purchase next week.

What about the per month subscription? I dont want to buy half life 2 only to find out that the subscriptions become avaliable a week later, and in doing so wasting even more money

You don't need to purchase HL2 to start pre-loading it.

Like CS:CZ you can pre-load it , but it would be useless , cause if you are not planning to buy hl2 through steam , they files will just sit there , taking place , without you being able to access them.
