steam preload, retail cd-key?

I just have a question about steam:
For those of us that preloaded the game but were intending to buy the retail version and use its CD-Key... well what do we do now? We need to purchase to get the rest of the preload but if were buying in stores... any theories?

If I understand you, yes you have to wait for the retail.
Oh, and I didn't spot a way to use a retail cd-key but then it's not out so might well not be implemented. Or the install program might spot that you're pre-loaded and just activate that.

Registering should work by using the "Register a product I already own".option in Steam.
