Yes, another "Steam not working" thread, but something seems to be different.

I have travel far and wide through the net for answers. Now it is time to make myself known, actually a particularly bad Steam problem I have.

First, This has been going on for many months. And i have blown sixty dollars to try and fix this with no luck (Another retail CS and CS: CZ (only real reason I got it)). I have created other accounts, and changed passwords. I seem to be able to connect to change those, but when I try to log in it is completely different.

It will update steam, it will launch, it will take me to the log-in screen, I put in my password, then it says that it is launching steam, then it just comes up with a screen saying that there is something wrong with my internet connection or steam network, then sometimes it will just crash all together with a weird message (which i will try to get a picture of). Another new development is that now I can't try to log in more than once! It crashes even before I get to the log in screen! I have looked around, but the only thing that relates to my problem is the invalid ticket. Now, I am to log out then log back in, unless my stupidity has me once again in its almost un-escapable grasp, there is no log out button or option on the log in screen.

I run on Windows ME (sad I know, shut up.)
With 56k and AOL as a provider (Equally sad, I know!)

The error logs say

Error:Steam error: SteamMountFilesystem(4293213287,3,0x26afbe0=,0x26afcf0) failed with error 1: Failed to get valid content ticket

Function trace:
CFileSystem_Steam::Mount()

I've tried using the error to find answers, but nothing that worked (for me at least) came up.

The attached pictures shows how the log-in goes.

If you have to know any additional info, please ask.

Try reinstalling, fixes lots of problems for other people, but i dont really know what the actual problem is, sorry.

Oh, yeh, forgot to talk about reinstalling.
I've reinstalled many, many times.
With 1.5 on, without 1.5 on.
Forced it to update but still no luck.
Reinstalled it two times when I got CS:CZ.
Then about five times just out of fustration when it wouldn't work.

Nothing happened, same problem is still there.

Did you remove EVERY steam file when uninstalling? some times it leaves items.

First few times I did an auto, then after looking for answers to my problem, I started to do custom and removed every file.

dood steam = da crapola and to put AOL on it? HAH no wonder you have problems your running AOL (massave part of internet lag thees days) and your trying to run steam ( program thats never guna work in a million years) for me i downloaded it 2 times i reinstalled about 10 times it ate my email it sucked up my cd-key then told me to take a hike... ile never use steam its just not worth the hassal to make it work

Steam has never liked Windows ME. Sorry but having AOL and Windows ME it makes it look like your a new computer user.

No you don't. New steam accounts don't need to have an e-mail address as the account name.

Any other suggestions? I'm not gonna pay for XP to figure out if it will fix Steam or not, and I can't get rid of AOL any time soon.

Don't think there's very much you can do. You need a new computer.

Do you speak fluent english?

Hi! I´m new in this forum.
I already find a solution (at least to me...)
I work in a cybercafe... we have 50 accounts of steam and 5 didn´t work... If I use a diferent account in the same machine It doesn`t work. I have realized when you install the steam again. If the installation can´t download this "ticket", then you don´t see an error message. I checked the steam status and the content server my steam are using is really busy (Content server 12, 13 or 14). I installed again the steam when the traffic is really low (01:00 GTM... 22:00 in Argentina, my country). It´s working now.
I hope you can find this usefull
Good bye!!!
Note: sorry for my high-school english :p

Once you have removed Steam off your system, MANUALY delete ANY resudial files. THEN, run regedit from the RUN command and remove ANYTHING to do with Valve and Steam in the Registry.

Then reboot and reinstall.

That worked for me with my Steam probs. :)

I thought Steam was crap too until I used it to download Codename Gordon. It's just valves way of making more money through not needing the producer to make so many boxed versions of the game. The sad thing is if you have to reinstall windows you'd have to download all the content again. And for people with limits of their downloads would really be pissed. I have a 56k modem connecting at 33.6k btw hoping to get ADSL with either unlimited or speed cut downs ie 256k a sec to 128k so I can play online again.

if you really need to format (and you cant get help on www.steampowered.com) just burn your cache files onto cd, and put them back in the appropriate directory, and you wont have to re-download them later.
