steam = screwed. games not loading.

im not recieving any error messages.

ive just re-installed steam, and its fully updated.

my server list works in windows, but when i try and connect to them i see the preparing to play counterstrike box, the game starts loading steam.... i see the counterstrike background (of half life background, depending on what im trying to load up). but after that nothing happens. i can move the mouse around, but i see no options to play the game or anything, the console doesnt come up, and norhing else comes up.

i can alt + tab out of the game and then when i ctrl +alt + del i can end task.. with the server list and teh rest of steam still working fine in windows. the actual game doesnt stop responding or anything, but it does start higging about 97% of my cpu and memory usage jumps between 50-137meg

ive had a look through the steam forums and cant find a solution... i cant post there yet, awaiting moderation so i thought id see if any of u guys can help!

Umm do you have the whole game downloaded? You might want to check that out first.

One thing that it could be which is pretty stupid is Steam will allow you to run the game even though it is downloading updates for it. Right click on the Steam icon choose Monitor then see if anything is getting updated.

give it time man..
do u realize how many pple are pre-loading as we speak? myself included..
Steam can't and won't be allowing every single user to pre-load all at once.. it just isn't reasonable to expect that.

besides.. think of it this way, it doesn't matter when u pre-load the beta? whether its right now or tomorrow morning.. because the truth is, u won't be able to play til August 18th.

have patience.. and it will pre-load.. just check back in an hour and see if it starts.. perhaps checking in the morning might help as well..

im talking about cs 1.6 and half life... the basic games in steam which i already have on my system. pre loading isnt involved at all becuase i have all the data for the games in the installer.

ive now uninstalled steam and have downloaded the newest steam installer and am currently re-downloading hl/cs again off steam.. hopefully this should work. fingers crossed

re-downloading the hl and cs cache files over steam with the new installer has done nothing to resolve the problem. can any1 help?
