Lots of servers down. Happens often around 8pm (pacific time). They're propably updating server software(steam).

Actually I think they might be testing what would happen if 1/2 of the servers crashed due to excessive downloading of HL2 media by HL fans.

They are upgrading the bandwith on all those servers.... probably upgrading steam and adding HL2 media... possibly more.... but i KNOW they are adding extra bandwith and that is why it was delayed... again

- Valve said they are interested in increasing the bandwidth for HL2 media release.
-These new servers appeared only recently.
-Their appearence coincided with the announcement that the media "is close"

It could very well be possible that they were taken down to set up the HL2 media. (they will first do half the the next half). They might also want to release it at night so it would not put so much of a load on their system.

I totally agree. I think we will be seeing the media tomorrow. I really do, and I have never felt this strongly about it before. I think the fact that tomorrow is Monday just betters the situation.

i think they will release it in the morning. the media is most likely being used to stress test steam servers for the release of hl2. releasing it in the morning would allow more ppl to dl at the same time.

I doubt Valve will release it late at night because they will want to be on hand as things go along to correct any major bugs or problems in the system. If they do release it, my guess would be midday (for them). But then, I have no facts, so we might as well just be taking bets.

I think fixing steam is priorty #1. The friends list needs to be fixed, they need to make it so you don't have to restart steam for it to update, richochet and oposing forces need to be fixed.

Then they still need more servers, 1150mbits is nothing when you have 50,000+ users all with broadband.
