This update has broken alot of things, we're basically stuck waiting for an SDK update before we can fix it.

Went I try to connect to a server, the loadbar stops at 16 squares. What is this!? I haven't been able to play since the damn patch was released, the game crashes and frezees.

Steam please do something!

I found a temporary kind of fix for you people with the game freezing before the menu. Just press escape a couple times, and it should load up. That's what I did and it worked.

So... um... what does this update exactly do, except messing up the game(s) for some of you?
Does it mean... like... there's no more "loading" screen between maps (I've heard that's something the xbox version is doing, something like streaming data during play)?

I had the same problem. Turns out ZONE ALARM was requesting access on the background.

And how do you (i) solve this problem?

bralab, either alt-tab to the zonealarm dialog and okay hl2.exe's access, or manually add it to the list of allowed programs (consult the documentation for detailed instructions).

I've not read through this entire thread - Can't be arsed & for fear of upsetting people by posting a dupe thread - has anyone had problems launching CSS since the update? I can't even get as far as the CSS menu screen!! WTF???

There is alot of problems with the new patch, sum people like urself are not able to even play. All u can do is sit and wait until VALVE friggin fix the damn issue.

Hello, I cannot alt-tab nor ctrl-alt-delete anymore when it freezes (i get the wait-icon but it remains in the same screen), i have to power-off and power-on again my laptop (has no reset). But i will have a look at the manual adding to zonealarm; thank you.
