Earlier today i started Steam and it started checking for updates, but said it couldn't find the server. Four hours later. I get the same thing. I installed another copy of Steam and it is having the same problem. It was working just fine yesterday. Could someone please help me?

The server you're trying to connect to may be congested or having a network problem. I had the exact same problem when an earlier Steam update was released. I believe I just had to close and re-open Steam a few times in succession until it finally connected and began updating.

yeah i ahd the same crap, i jsut kept retrying (remember to log out if logged in) and it will eventually update, but this update went so smoothly, it made me forget all my other steam woes

Shut the cack up already, steam is good IMO. Has not crashed once and many of the features are cool, an IM service, better interface and options. Anyone notice the sheild exploit was fixed because Valve made an update? Thats one of the points of Steam technology, it makes it better overall for real gamers with quick updates. Yes thats right QUICK. I say the biggest number one reason why people bash Steam is because they are insecure are very afraid of "change". Its like the people that bashed that the world was flat when it was really round.
