so wife just called and asked me which controller I wanted for the xbox360 cuz they had the wired one on sale ..took me a sec to clue in she was also buying an xbox360 to go with it ..i had mentioned this morning that I was thinking of buying one /kisses wife

so I now have a premium 360 and will be going online when I get a chance ..so do I need to buy the xbox live package or is there some free trial thingy with the premium and after that I just keep paying by credit card?

also I'm assuming it comes with a vga connector so I can hook it up to my pc monitor? (samsung 226bw)

You'll have to buy a vga adapter unfortunately.

Welcome to the club, hope you like it :)

no damn connector? so much for "premium" ;)

I better like it ..or more precisely Mass Effect better be good ..or you're in trouble warbie ;)

Tell me what games you get...

I own Rainbow 6 Vegas and Forza Motorsport 2 but haven't played in a good while... I'm waiting for some more games to come out.

It's like my only console I've let sit so swiftly after buying it... and I bought it with my own money too! First console I ever bought.

But it's not cause it sucks... quite the contrary. It's because of a lot of complicated reasons that are too ridiculous to talk about on forums.

So anyways... let me start at the beginning...

:upstare:

EDIT: Oh and yeah stern, you'll have to buy the VGA connector thingy. Don't skimp, go with the microsoft one. And you'll also have to buy a nice little 2 dollar adapter from radioshack so you can plug your computer speakers directly to your VGA audio part.

Actually, the Microsoft VGA adapter for the 360 comes with a Y-adapter so that you can plug the stereo cables directly into your soundcard.

Also, STERN GET HALO 3 :p

it comes with Forza 2 ..and I'll probably pick up gears of war ...I'll rent halo 3 ..still trying to plod through halo 2 (played on tuesday)

I'm most looking forward to Mass Effect (makes slitting throat sign at warbie ;) ) ..nah you're right, it looks awesome ..the visuals sold me the game I must admit ..oh and that clone of God of war: Conan ..looks brutal and good filler to keep me occupied till the real thing is released ....and I've been holding off buying orange box ..and then there's Enemy territory ...I dont have enough time

Anyone know a good place to buy (In the USA) an AVG to DVI converter so that you can hook up 360 to a monitor like Stern previously mentioned?

many <3s

Dead Rising is good. Not online, but good.

You failed me Stern. :(

Let me know how the games are :p

Now we can see what you look like in the xbox live cam RIGHT??? or is there no such thing. I want to see what you look like!!! Dont take this the wrong way :)

Stern's physical self doesnt exist. We will never see him.

ZOMG PUPPY KRYNN! D: (you still owe me some derp derp, bitch)

*sits back and watches as Stern's gamerpoints slowly increase to match his postcount*

My 360 is idling under my TV and collecting dust.
I have yet to finish Dead Rising and i've had the game for more then a year now.
The only downside to this console is the subscription cost of online play.
I Am already spending a shit load on my cables subscription as it is.
Without a gold subscription, xbox live is pretty much useless for me.
I would give up all of silvers subscription features up, just to be able to play my games online for free.
To be honest i bought the console without giving much thought into it.
I wish i waited for the PS 3 instead at this point.

Stern there are two xbox live packages - the silver, which is free and lets you download crap, and gold, which costs, but you get multiplayer.
Also, congratz. MASS EFFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stern, your Premium comes with a free month of Xbox Live Gold. Use it wisely (i.e. immediately and then add everyone on HL2.net).

Enjoy listening to 12 year olds bark terrible insults at you on Xbox live. You'd be surprised how many people are just completely retarded.

Actually, you'd be surprised how much this only relates to Halo 2/3. Maybe it's just me, natch, but GoW, COD3, BF2:MC and Rainbow Six Vegas are all pretty mature based games when I'm playing them, with the odd one or two 10 year olds. But otherwise I agree, Xbox Live has it's fair share of bellends.

stern update: Gears of war rocks, stern is tired from lack of sleep

Premium comes with 1 free month of Gold on 3 Gamertags. (each gamertag gets 1 free month)

Nice work Cap'n. I did the same thing relatively recently and have not regretted it one bit. I got it mainly for Bioshock and the upcoming Mass Effect and Alan Wake and a few others that may run better on it than the PS3. I am currently borrowing GoW from a friend and am almost done with it and yes, it rocks. I also bought Test Drive: Unlimited because I have been to Oahu and the game provides a virtual vacation for me that looks better than its PC counterpart in my case.

My gamertag is ThrashTestDummy but I am rarely connected. Blast MS for charging $100 extra for wireless. Total BS. :sniper:

I think there are third-party Ethernet-based wireless adapters that you can buy for about $40.

thanks guys ...currently trying to figure out how best to hook up my monitor to my xbox ..the xbox has the hdmi port so I could use a hdmi > DVI cable but then there's the problem with audio ..where do I plug in the audio?

You can use the Y-adapter to plug the audio cables directly into your computer's Line-In port on the soundcard. But what I do is set up my Xbox in my basement and have a TV running behind the monitor to plug the audio into :D

Or straight into an amp if you have one nearby. It is a bit of hassle and unless you want to be wearing two sets of headphones when playing on Live you'll need to output to speakers.

heh so you use the larger screen (tv) as speakers? :O

which y-adapter are you referring to?

Oh, I take it you didn't buy the 360 VGA adapter :P

You'll probably have to go pick up an RCA Y-adapter from Radioshack or something.

no cuz the newest 360s come with an hdmi port ..so I could connect it to my lcd by using a hdmi > dvi adaptor ..only problem is audio

Attach a DVI > HDMI cable to your monitor. Attach the other end to your 360, then attach the AV center to the back of your 360 and run an optical cable to an external surround decoder or the back of your TV if it has optical, otherwise use an optical > SPDIF converter, then connect a DVI cable to your PC. Disconnect the HDMI cable from your 360 AV center and connect to a HDMI > DVI adapter and attach to your PC graphics card port. Then insert the 360 into a convenient fireplace, making sure you have removed the AV center / optical cable before lighting in order to sell on ebay, and Bob's your uncle - problem solved.

We share the same taste in uber monitors Stern :cheese:

I take it you'll be whoring it on Mass Effect in November then....Git. ;)
