I've been playing HL2 and once in a while it will not let me play it and say you are about to install half life 2 disk space required 3496 MB all files will be downloaded from Steam.

It will then either say that the Steam server is too busy, or that I need to wait like 100 years for the files to download.

It's not fair because I bought a retail version of HL2 on the release date from Compusmart and I shouldn't have to go through all this crap to play it!!!!

Shame on you steam and all of the valve team. The game is fantastic but if I can't get to play it...

...It sucks.

Nope, steam is slow to upload. I can hit 350 on a regular website.

Still though. Why will it not let me play half life damn it? It is installed from the CDs.

Also why is it that when you insert the CD and it pops up with the game menu, you can click on Play Half Life 2 ad nauseam to no avail?

have you set in the steam options that you are using 4.0 mb dsl?

Did you try contacting Valve? or the steam forums? Someone else might have had a similar problem.

It's almost as if Steam hasn't 'seen' your cd installation. Do you (somehow) have two copies of Steam installed or something odd like that?

No but I did have to reinstall the game after reinstalling XP because I swapped mobos. I deleted the infamous blob file and now it works.

Their client was coded by Klingons.
