My local O/C store has got these coming in next week. No halflife2 as predicted and they are stating 2004. Makes you wonder why ATI paid $6million - do you think Valve scammed ATI with the leak and new fair well they wouldnt be launching HL2 at the same time as the card?

Nobody is going to buy one now knowing that the R420 will be released in spring 2004 aswell - probably at the same time as HL2. At the same time ATI cant have their money back because Valve has a very good excuse. Makes uo wonder.

hey ho! thank ye sir... I wonder if I can trade in my 5800 ultra for an ati 9800xt.. of course I would still end up paying like 300 bucks.. but hey heres hoping.

I wouldnt bother now - no games that will require that hardware will be released this year now Hl2 is postponed. Defintely wait for the new hardware next year and get some real performance improvements.

You could get by on a radeon 9700pro - even Halo runs fine on that and certainly a 5800.

I hear that the 9800XT is the last AGP card thats being put out by ATI.

just wait untill the real next-gen gfx cards?

I already have a 9800 pro, I have another computer that has a 5800 in it, and trading it in would be beneficial for 2 reasons, the 5800 sucks :/ and I get a voucher for hl2.
then IM just gonna buy the special edition when its released.

If so what are they going to be using? PCI? Or is there something new on the horizon that I am just not aware of?

I'm thinking about getting the All-In-Wonder pro. I guess all of the extra features, for sixty-three extra bucks, are worth it. Too bad there's not a 256Mb AIW, that would be nice, indeed. Ah well...Gonna have to live with what I can get. I still think Hl2 is coming out this year. Wait and see my friends. You'll see, you'll all see.

I bet you, in between now and the release, someone will ask if you can get the game, without buying the 9800xt, just watch. That will certainly make my day all the better.

PCI-X will work on PCI slots... right? i just bought new figgen rig for an AGP slot... now they're making PCI-X! WTF!!!! they should say sumthing next time.... A-holes!

new R420s coming out in Q1 of 2004 will have a PCI express to AGP bridge. They will be AGP compliant AND PCI express, since PCI express wont be out until Q2. The R420s that will be released in Q2 of 2004 will be pure PCI express.

so. there you go.. no worries what board you have.

Like he said, they will have a PCI express to AGP bridge. That means that it will have PCI express technology but the connector on the bottom of the card will be agp and work in your 2x/4x/8x AGP slot.
In the future, motherboards will come without AGP slots but instead have PCI express and future cards will have PCI express connectors.
Do not worry about the next generation of cards (Q1 '04) as they will work in anyone's current system.

Much faster better performance. Have to do some research on the exact figures.
But it is a much better design.
