The Combine possesses many marvels. One such artifact they enjoy is a satellite that continuously drains the World Ocean of its water. While a majority of our world's most precious commodity is distributed amongst the dry worlds of the Universal Union, a good part get's lost on its way up to orbital territory. Hyper-evaporation has bloated our atmosphere of water vapor, a greenhouse gas. Thus, our cool planet is changing. The icecaps have melted down to a considerable remnant, deserts grow as entire ecosystems are killed off, the global coastlines change to accomodate for lower sea levels, and thus the Combine deals a literal attack against Earth.
Among these problems have come the storms.
Previously, our world has been tempered and controlled. With the advent of heat and water vapor, the hurricanes and typhoons that have plagued human civilization for eons have erupted hundred fold. Over their shrinking salty domains they are the masters. The Combine have never encountered such tempests, and their only hope is that some key could be found in human technology to control these dangers. But we had never conquered the raging winds.
Thus, the Resistance has found a new home. The Combine keeps away from the hurricanes that can make playthings of gun-ships and striders. The expanding landmasses bleached and devoid of life and the sand that has never seen our system’s sun have become new surfaces to dwell upon. The stubborn humans cling to Terra, holding out in these storm lands, biding their time until a blow can be dealt against the evil that has consumed their home.

This is an Role-Playing Game. Hopefully you already know how this works.
Write up a character, and join a small force of adventurers willing to Resist in one of the harshest terrains the Earth has come to known. The Storm Lands of the Caribbean are the fringes of which the Combine has yet to truly conquer, home to small cadres of survivors who hold out against the threat of invasion, be it Combine, Xen, the raging tempests, or even each other. A war has yet to commence, one that will hope to win the North American continent back from the oppressors of mankind.
This is set two years before the arrival of Gordan Freemen. The portal storms still ravage the Great American Desert, as Black Mesa became a locus point between Xen that can never be broken, not even by nuclear fire. The Combine is moving in to establish more fortresses and outposts on the coastlands, and every winter break of the storms is taken as an opportunity for more land grabs. The Resistance must thwart this movement or give up one of their most powerful bastions.
Most of the characters should be human. However, if you prove you can play a Vortigaunt, this can be a character choice at well (though the Vortigaunts are not as sure allies of humans as of now). A human-Combine who has freed himself of the bonds of the Combine can also be used.
You may be a former soldier, a common citizen, a scientist, a survivalist, etc; all kinds of people are applicable. You have a lot of leeway on what character you can have, but try not to make them too weak or too strong. A little less strong than Gordon Freeman, but stronger than a typical soldier of the Resistance that you fight with in Half-Life 2.
Please write up a character, with a physical description, a paragraph or two of your history, what your abilities are (what weapons can you use? Are you good with a sniper rifle? Can you create home-made bombs? Are you very good at problem-solving? Can you hack into Combine networks?). Also, try to include your motivations, so I know what your characters wants to do, both short-term and long-term, and why.
Your character sheet should look like this:
Name:
Age:
Occupation (former/current):
Physical Description:
History:
Abilities/Skills:
Motivations:
Other than name, race, age, and occupation, each category should have at least one paragraph. If you want to include a paragraph about your occupation, please do so as well.
This is going to be a very cool RPG, and I hope it will attract players who are serious, but want to have a fun time, are creative and good at working with groups. Characters submitted that stray from canon will be treated harshly. Hopefully we can all add to the great saga that is known as Half-Life.
