Street Fighter IV unveiled

Oh! I remember The Street Fighter II or was it III? I don't remember which, but I do remember the countless Ten Dollar quarter rolls I spent at my local video arcade.

The original developers also (Capcom). I hope it comes out in PC.

:O I would've thought these guys would be really old/dead by now.

*remenisces about Street Fighter II*

looks like that even if supposed to be 3D,they want to keep the 2D feeling

just as I expected

Oh, ****ing awesome.

They better go nuts with the graphics.

Ryu's only about 40 years old. :p

I did expect him to have a beard though, and a little bit of gray going on.

Good job he took on Street Fighting. If he'd been a footballer he would've been considered past it, already.

Yeah.

Honestly, after SF3 I wanted to see him closer to 50 years old, after having trained with Oro, because that's what the story was leading up to. But I suppose if he had trained with Oro, he'd be so overpowered in the game that there would never be a reason to play as anybody else. He'd have to be made an unplayable secret boss.

Yeah.

Wait... the Street Fighter series has a storyline??

Mhm. Most fighting games do.

It started in Street Fighter Zero (Alpha). That was the first World Warrior tournament. Every character has their own backstory and motive. The story progresses from there.

i am pleased so far :)

might even pick up that issue of EGM...

I was never able to get into these games, the computer would curb stomp me every time. I remember playing in the hotel we lived in for two months while they were doing repairs on my house. My brother and I would beg for quarters and put money into the machine only to get our salads tossed by some tribal looking character who could stretch his arms across the entire game world and tear us to shreds. Good memories, but I've always been rubbish at fighting games that actually take skill.

Dhalsim?

Or Necro?

They're both stretchy characters, but Necro replaced Dhalsim in SF3. Dhalsim's back for IV though, yay. Necro was a cool character though, for his story and his electricity attacks. And also because of Effie in Second Impact. Necro and Effie's opera win pose was awesome.

Capcom is continually doing things right. They've always been on of my favorite major developers.

Looks great.

I might pick this up although i'll probably suck at this as i've never really played street fighter. I can't be called a gamer! ;(

*runs away in hysterics*

Dhalsim, the memories of rape came back as soon as I saw that picture you posted :'-(.

I'm going to be an old fart and say it looks like shite. I really don't like the art directon at all. Maybe in motion it'll come together.

So yea, in the screenshot of Ryu by himself in a pose, he definitely has a boner over his own game.

More news:

Welp, got my answer as to why Ryu isn't sporting that classy beard, or graying at the temples: the story's set before the third world warrior tournament, but after the second. As such it might not even be a tourney. That kinda bums me out, but as I said previously, I guess they couldn't have had Ryu at any point after he trained with Oro because he'd be invincible. Still, would've liked to have seen what combining Gouken-ryuu ansatsuken with senjutsu would've looked like.

Parries from Street Fighter 3 have been dropped. Considering I've been playing P Groove for the past six years, and SF3 for the past ten, I'm going to have to relearn NOT to tap forward when someone attacks me, unless I want to end up punched in the face.

A new "revenge" gauge is implemented that allows players to use EX moves (more powerful versions of specials, as in SF3), and "saving" moves, which are instantaneous attacks that also stun the opponent. These moves can be canceled by performing a dash, and the dash can be canceled with another perfectly-timed EX or saving attack.

At the moment, the SFIV team is debating on which super style to use: Turbo, Alpha, or SF3. Personally I'd just throw Turbo out and go with Alpha or SF3. I mean, you're either going to have a bunch of supers you can use, or you're going to pick just one from a list. Why have just one set super move for every character? Reduces tactics if you ask me.

Something new and very cool: the ultra move. Taking advantage of SFIV's 3D visuals, ultra moves are incredibly powerful supers that, when activated, will trigger a cinematic. The camera will move from the fixed 2D plane and fly around showing off different angles. It'll be activated by using performing a super move with two buttons, a la Capcom's Marvel series.

Online play, very yes. Character customization and items, very no.

Oh and it's for "As many systems as possible." A test version was even running on PC, though I doubt they'll actually release a PC version.

I just got the EGM article!

Darkside: did you type up the info found in that article, or did you find that somewhere else?

Can't Ryu & Ken just get along? This rivalry of their has gone on for decades now...

Yeah, hopefully. The cancelling sounds cool, but I'm just so used to parrying. Like I said earlier, I'm going to get punched in the face a lot. I already do in Capcom fighting games that aren't SF3 or CvS2; the other day I was playing MvC and I tapped forward against a projectile.

"Damn it, I keep doing it!"

Too much P Groove. I can't even play any other grooves any more.

i was thinking "WTF who brought this thread from the grave?"

Then i was like OMG New trailer!
