Is HL2 going to look as good as that video stress test with CS:S? I think it looks amazing... and if the game looks that good, I'll be really really impressed. i hope it does.

Yes, not all the time though. The stress test takes HL2's best features and uses them all in one area.

Have you watched the Bink videos? you should watch those.

i hope my machine performs like it does on the stress test, averages 51 fps, but i doubt it as their will be big open areas >< AI, and Physics

arrr well i'm sure it will be great on shit fps :p

im thinking the same thing. i get a similar fps in the stress test aswell

not to forget the extra processing used for sound aswell as the AI and physics :(

i hope so too. Mine averages at 92 FPS at 1024x768, and 61 FPS at 1280x1024.

i get around 95 fps in the cs:source stress test, but while playing cs:source (16 palyer online server) i get from 100-120 in halls/rooms to 60 + 'outside'

i imagine hl2 performance being equal.

You have to remember that sometimes there will be 6+ Characters/Monsters on the screen sometimes, with fighting/explosions going off and physics being calc and ai etc.

Im sure that wont bring it down TOO much, well see.

if somehow you could drop a strider and 4 AI teamates in that VST level, it'd be a bit more accurate on actual gameplay framerates.

It seems the difference between the stress test and actual gameplay will be very CPU dependent. See xbitlabs.com CS:S benchmarking article. All the high-end graphic cards end up at the same FPS since physics etcetera become rate limiting (that is the CPU).

I think the FPS scores in the article is the best HL2 approximation today (and they test mid-range cards as well - no low-range cards). If anything, HL2 will contain even more CPU work (more characters on screen, more moving objects...) and therefore demand even more from your CPU. We'll see in two weeks.

does any one know a good number that you have to get in the stress test to play HL2 well. I know i am going to be fine but i think that is something good to say in a tread like this.

I know this has nothing to do with HL2 , but Strangalite have created an engine that allowes thousands of monsters, all with A.I. etc etc etc and hundreds of explosions at one time. (There putting this into the new Starship Troopers game.

This would be a good idea for HL3 no ? thousands of combies , rarrr
