i read a report by a russian scientist who specialized in the sun, who said that all of the recent (as in the past few years) "solar activity" who had come to the conclusion that the sun was getting ready to go supernova. He said that at anytime the sun could blow. The bright side is that we won't know a thing because we will be engulfed almost instantly. I wish I could find a link to the story, but it was a few months ago that I found it. most of the people I told didn't seem to care anyway, as there isn't a damn thing we can do to stop it. well when the sun does die its gonna expand as it tries to eat up hydrogen, that'll wipe out the closer planets, mercury, venus, earth, mars, life will probably get a chance on the outer systems, then it'll eventually contract to just a dead star

and we don't know for sure that our sun wouldn't go nova. We do however know its mass isn't great enough to become a black hole at any point.. though we know nearby stars could possibly implode into black holes. Be a bugger if one of them got a bit too close eh
